Route the ribbon cable behind the LCD screen and out the side. Make your connection, ZIF to ribbon, on the side of the LCD. Then just route regular wires thru the hinge area. The wires in the hinge should be bent to form a "Z". The opening and closing will twist the "Z".

    guys,

found the problem with mine, took it apart (again!!!) at the bottom of the touch panel where the ribbon with the 4 connector one of the track that runs along the edge of the ribbon there is a rip accross the outer track.... bugger

looks like a new panel... this will be my third panel, first one broke, second one as above, third time lucky lets hope so....

can you buy the panels only??? dont need the controller, cables etc

    thanks

    Z:)

try just to stick the rip with a tape, i ripped mine (2 tracks out of 4) close to the panel as i said before when i was trying to route my cables as jerryt said )) i sticked it back and it works... not 100% correct but it does. anyway i would like to maybe try another panel.

@ray_zorback, Yours broke routing behind the screen? Sorry, it has worked good for me.

@zetex, People have repaired breaks in the foil by scraping the foil and bridging the break with solder and a small wire.

    update time.....

got the panel to calibrate... two rips in total one at either end of the ribbon....

i put the ribbon behind the lcd and connector out of the right hand side of the lcd panel from behind (as advised) put it all back together...

    and guess what....

the desktop is displaying very wierd indeed.....

basically i have 3/4 of the screen , and then a black band on the right....

oh and also a strip along the bottom of the screen where the rycycle bin is replicated in a blue bar....

and know this is a weird one but anyone got any clues before it goes through the window

    thanks alot

    z:)

A couple of ideas; reseat the LCD connector. Check the screen refresh rate and post for other to compare. My AAO is disassembled at the moment or I would post my screen refresh rate.

You could try in the control panel to set the curser to hid after X.X seconds.

Check out "Comfort On Screen Keyboard".

Completed installation late last night, and had partial success.

I opted for attaching the controller to the CN11 port, and it appears to work fine - the controller was detected by Windows, and the drivers installed fine.
However, I get no response from the touchscreen when trying to calibrate. (though the first time I tap the screen, the mouse cursor does jump to 0,0 - so there must be an electrical connection of some kind.)

    So, a few questions:
How do you know which way up the ribbon cable from the TS should go into the socket?
Is it possible to mount said ribbon cable socket inside the casing for the display, rather than have the ribbon cable traversing the AA1's hinge? as this is *incredibly* tight for me, and will almost certinly break after a number of open/close ops.
Is the pin order for the ribbon cable socket definitely 2,1,3,4?

    Cheers,

    :edit:

oh, only downside so far - is that the 2 catches that hold the screen bezel at the bottom (hinge edge) broke - The 2 that have no screws to reenforce them :(
It's held together with abit of sticky tape atm.... will have to come up with a more permanent solution once i've got it all working properly.

    :edit:

Oh one other thing, during windows boot (and a few instances during driver installation I think), I got a 'beep' from the pc speaker.
Is it meant to do that, or is it the touch controller reporting a connection fault of some kind?

    :edit:

turning the ribbon cable over in it's socket made no difference.

    The wire order is 1, 2, 3, and 4.

The ribbon cable can go in the ZIF connector either way.

Route the ribbon cable behind the screen and mount the ZIF connector on the side of the screen. That way the ribbon cable does not go thru the hinge.

No calibration and beeping during boot, sounds like the TS panel is sensing a touch. Be sure nothing is applying pressure on the screen (Bezel?) or bridging the top and bottom of the screen (Tape?).

    Sweet!

Took off the casing for the mobo. & screen, swapped pins 1 & 2 on the ribbon zif socket. (the guide realy needs correcting in that regard, it's blatently incorrect atm)

I currently have it running totally open (using a usb keyboard & mouse), and the touchscreen is working almost perfectly!

The only problem I can see, is that I can't touch right up against the top, right & bottom edges of the screen. (closest I can get is about 10 pixels from the edge)
Presumably this can be improved with a little bit of calibration.

Now.... to put it back together & retain the working status!

    Ta 4 the help

No touch near the edges of the panel is a panel limitation, calibration will not be able to correct this. TS panels by design have an area of no response around the whole panel, some maybe better then others, but it is what you would expect to find.

yeah but you can over-ride that. with the software im using it gives me something like 10 extra pixels of touchworthiness on either sides of the screen so i can get to the very very edge, i'll submit a printscreen

Well, it's all back together & working perfectly =]

Just need to come up with a way of repairing these 2 broken catches along the hinge edge of the screen. Any suggestions? (already tried superglue, and it wouldn't take the strain)

off topic, but my aa1 decided that im proud with the half-working touchscreen and turned off the touchpad haha! it just suddenly stopped responding to any touches yet device manager shows that device works properly and no problems.
