Here's a tip if you wanna save a few bucks for this mod.

If you buy it from "toptouchscreen" on ebay make sure you don't use the buy it now button. If you bid about $50-55 on his solderless kit he'll give you a second chance offer every time. For his non solderless kit if you give a best offer of about $40 he'll let it go also. So right there you save yourself $10-20.

The only stupid part is the canadian dollar dropped a lot so i end up paying the same amount as a few months ago

Think you can post pictures of how you wired and where you placed the board if you get everything up and going? if so that would be awesome.
Also does anyone know how hard it is to install the TS that you get from dealextreme? the wires are on the opposite side of the TS he uses in this guide.

Alternately, couldn't you just wire a USB hub to the webcam wires, then wire up both the webcam and the touchscreen to the hub? Or is that a rediculous, nonsensical idea?

Maybe I didn't make myself clear but that's what I meant.

But yea I'd still like to get a response as to why this method isn't used instead? Like is there something bad with this method?

There is nothing wrong in this method. This method is very popular in EeePC and solderless TS kits. I do not see anything impossible or ridiculous in it... It's just another way of doing this...

Ok well this leads to my next question. Are you sure that all the usb ports don't have "switched" power?

So all of them will drain the battery even if the PC is turned off? It doesn't seem to drain the battery if I have a usb device plugged into the powered off computer. Or is it only because of the specific touch screen that causes it to drain the battery?

i see in another topic that there is a working usb pins on the back of the motherboard
can we use that one instead? that one is much easier to solder on.

Yes you can. This additional USB port is active and operational as explained here:

Does the touchscreen work with Linpus?

Is there anyone who can tell me whether touchscreen functionality works with Linpus?
I bought two Acer Aspire Ones. One with XP, the other one with SSD (Samsung). I wanted to do the touchscreen mod to both of them and give the SSD version to my mum who is computer illiterate. But after playing a bit with Linpus I decided that it would suit her better than XP. Now did anybody try touchscreen with Linpus here on this forum? Does it work and what are the limitations compared to XP with touchscreen?

Very nice guide you made here, btw......

Not sure if I'm having a few problems or it works differently - perhaps having different parts than lfcfan.

I got them from the same ebay supplier (can't fault the speed of delivery here either!).

Initially I couldn't get it to work - usb connection working fine from the pcie but touch not working. For the time being ended up connecting a standard usb plug and checking it out outside of the case. It appears that that I needed to reverse connections 1 & 2 on the pads from the touch screen - my connections are now 1,2,3,4 on the pads rather than 2,1,3,4.

With the connections in the order of 2,1,3,4 calibration doesn't work the green X doesn't flash. Changing to 1,2,3,4 on a hunch (its the order of the wires in connector that comes with the kit) seems to work......but the sensitive side of the screen is opposite to the one in lfcfans kit - I need to orient my ts with the ribbon cable to the left and not to the right.

Its working now, but I'm a little confused - I haven't installed the screen at the moment will do that this afternoon, perhaps sensitive side should go down against the lcd - or perhaps I just have a different screen?

To following this up, ts is installed now with ribbon to the left, rather than the right and pad order 1,2,3,4 as above. Its working fine, love it to bits!

Just wanted to alert people to a possibility of different screens from the ebay supplier and not to assume they have a faulty kit.

Yes that's the one I was looking at however by reading the guides and posts on the net some users had to solder and use double sided sticky tape?!

Does anyone recommend this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0286634812

You're right! Step 15 in this guide caused me a lot of wasted time. If I read your post earlier it would've saved me a big head ache.

Guys make sure you follow the diagrams in here instead of the one in the guide.
