    Quick Q

Could someone give me a pointer or two when it comes to the controller? This ones from the soldered fidohub TS theyre selling at the moment. They've clipped off the ends, I assume to save space, however it also appears to be a different design to those in guides and on their website. the ebay link shows the numbering of the wires on the cable between the TS and the controller, but not the numbering for those wires to be connected to the controller itself. I imagine its something obvious that I just havent noticed. :/ Cheers C:

Also threw in some pictures of how the screen reflects and transmits light, as this was something I'd wondered about before I bought it. The effect of reflection is pretty drammatic, but only because the light source is so intense.

    Hey gang!

Well I ended up doing the mod but also threw in 1GB memory and bluetooth for good measure.

Unfortunately, an eBay seller has been dishonest with me and sold me a USB 1.1 bus-powered hub. Therefore I can't get the TS or BT to work!

If you're thinking hmmm, well here's some evidence:

    - lsusb lists all devices.
    - usb mouse works with hub.
    - windows informed me 'the device can perform faster...' when plugged into hub.
    - BT failed to operate when in hub but worked when in side port.

I'm still unsure how I'm supposed to differentiate when the touchscreen doesn't work if it's a hardware problem or software. (I'm using linpus still so no 'new hardware detected' helpfulness. Advice on that aspect would be appreciated!

Actually can you do lsusb and tell me what your TS is called. Mine (I believe) is 'Atmel Corp.'

Hey again. I'm having the wierdest time callibrating my touch screen. I've just installed it, and the cursor keeps jumping up to the top right corner of the screen. I can get the cursor to move when i press a pen to the screen, but movement is mirrored vertically and horizontally, and upon release, the cursor flicks back to the top right corner.

Its like the screen is configured back to front and upside down, with phantom pressure being applied to the bottom left corner of the screen so as to make the cursor flick to the top right. However I've removed the screen cover to ensure that nothing applies any pressure and the glitch remains. I cant find anything in the control panel of the TS controller that helps. when I try to do a four point callibration, I get as far as the blinking target in the bottom left corner which deactivates itself as the TS detects pressure from the corner. Anyone know what the heck could be going on?

If you're asking me, h0dges, I'm not running linux so i cant run lsusb, but I installed my drivers from here http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eg/drivers.htm

    - edit -
    a spot more information

So I turned the strip from the touch screen upside down in its connector to see if that was the problem. Movement left and right looks more like it should look. Moving up and down moves more to the right and left respectively as well though.

The cursor still defaults to the top right corner. It really is most unusual. I've used touch screens in the last like on my old phone running windows mobile. when i use the mouse or the touch pad (not the touch screen) to move the cursor around, it stays where it is upon ending movement. Only when I touch the screen does the cursor fly off to the top right corner. I would have thought that with percieved constant pressure input from the screen, moving the cursor with the mouse or track pad would have the same effect as using the screen itself. Its also interesting that with the strip from the panel inserted the right way up, the corner that the cursor moves to is still the right side, rather than the left.

Uploaded a picture of the configuration too. Drew a grid in a continuous line on the screen and this is what was interpreted.

Does your touch screen have any cracks on the corners? Try taking out your entire touchkit unit (controller, touch screen) from the system PC and test to see if it will function properly. Maybe the bezel is pressed against on the touchscreen causing false sensing. Also, check to see if the 4 wires coming from the controller to the touch screen is shorted with anything. If all the hardware seems to function fine, then you might want to uninstall your touchkit driver and reinstall again.

TBH I had the touch screen controller wired up to a normal USB hub before I installed it into the laptop, as I had a little time to wait for the new one to arrive (after Aust Post kindly managed to somehow crack the first one).. So when the new one arrived, the first thing I did was plug it in to see that it was responsive. It was bouncing back and forth on the screen when I touched it, but at the time I was just too happy that it responded at all to notice and figured it must have just been a callibration problem. I realise now that it obviously wasnt. I'm a little apprehensive to remove the touch panel though, as with the spots of double-sided tape put in, It'd be very likely to crack. There arent any visible cracks at the moment. I've looked quite closely all along the border.

I had the same problem when I installed my touch panel.
Part of this issue seemed to be the ribbon being upside down, but then after fixing that the cursor still flicked to the upper right.
I disassembled the body of the AAO again and rearranged the USB hub and touch screen controller PCBs that I'd put in so that there wouldn't be any pressure on them (seems there'd been some before). That seemed to fix it. Hope you got your touch screen up and running, they're really great!

    Thanks for this guide!

I just replaced my LCD screen using this guide :-D

One note for those replacing the screen is to make sure to carefully lift the LCD screen because there is the camera/mic cable taped to the backside of the screen.

the correct pin order for attaching the touch screen to the

Can any one confirm the correct pin order for attaching the touch screen to the controller.
The Tutorial by Lufcfan very clearly shows the order as 2 1 3 4 from left to right facing the screen. IF THIS IS INCORRECT THE TUTORIAL SHOULD BE CORRECTED!

Here is a summary of what is in the posts.
9/19 by RGARJR a very nice diagram with 1 2 4 3 (notice the crossed order)
    10/8 deeviation says should be 1 2 3 4 or 4 3 2 1 (with no crossed wires!)
    11/2 becky 9 confirms that the order must be 1 2 3 4
    11/10 ineedaname confirms 1 2 3 4
    11/15 fido hub 4 3 2 1
11/15 samwiseb 1234 but on 11/24 not actually working correctly.
The consensus is seems to be 1 2 3 4 or 4 3 2 1 will work. Has anyone actually have gotten the touch screen to work as it is wired in the tutorial as 2 1 3 4 ?

    other observations:
apparently the screens come in two variations with the leads on either the right or left side. Be sure to have the screen mounted correctly. In one post it stated that the glass sandwhich, has a thicker and thinner side. The thinner side should be facing out.

    - Solder Flux
    - Flux Remover / Cleaner

Anyone installed a solderless touchscreen yet?
I got one. They are very fast - 4 days from Taiwan to the US. No complaining about that. Problem is that of what I understand from their instructions is that you have to connect the screen to the USB port using the OUTSIDE of the case. I very well might be mistaken. I am an absolute noob as far as electronics goes.
But I would have no idea how otherwise to connect the screen. Anyone has any usable ideas, suggestions, hints?
And since I am a noob at this, a picture would be great )

I just received the solderless kit also. Super fast shipping from Taiwan. (2 Days!) Anyhow, I will try do it tonight... Time to get my geek on! :geek:
But no, the directions are to connect inside connections only... no external usb connections... (Man wouldn't that be lame)

Well I got it in and am using it now as I write.. works flawlessly so far.. my camera still works and all seems good..
The directions are kind of vague (odd)... but I stumbled through it... took me a few hours... You basically take the whole computer apart... The screen is noticeably grainier after the install... just looks like the screen is a little dusty or something where as before it was very nice and clear... Something I can deal with..
Now I just need to find some WinXP tweaks to make it a bit more user friendly.. (The iphone like scrolling, etc...)
BTW... The kit came with two extra cords for plugging in the screen to external usb ports if you want to.

    Hello erverybody,

I am from Germany and I am really interested in adding a touchscreen to my aspire one.

But finding a touchscreen is not quiet easy - the only touchscreen I found is this one on eBay:

    http://cgi.ebay.de/8-9-Touch-Panel-...14&_trkparms=72:1229|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

The touchscreen on the pictures there is looking equal to the touchscreen you have used. Do you have an idea if it's the same than yours?

    Thank you :D

Here are the sources I found. The panel in the link you provide (Germany Ebay) appears most like the one from Fidohub, but the controller boards are different. I have not seen a set up which used two boards.

US $56.89 or $59.85 Requires soldering
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15611 (Has free shipping)
    http://www.fidohub.com/product.php?prod_id=38&sort3=
    http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/toptouchs ... omZQQ_mdoZ

    and

    $96.08 Solderless
    http://www.fidohub.com/product.php?prod_id=37&sort3=

I just ordered this one; http://www.fidohub.com/product.php?prod_id=38&sort3=
because the modification which uses the camera connector appears to create problems for alot of people, (USB voltage at the camera is 3.6 instead of 5.0) and there are fewer reports of people having problems with the solder kit.

    HELP !!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know the proper connections for this TS controller from Fidohub?

I wired according to this diagram
    http://hermes.hud.ac.uk/u0757927/AAOU/Schematic97.doc
in the begining of this thread, but the 5v line from the CN11 usb port wire is shutting down the computer.

Connections at the top of the picture are 1, 2, open, 3, 4.
Connections at the bottom are; open, V, G, D+, D-.
