    Hello all,

I will be getting my 1 on Thursday. Would like to do this touchscreen mod. I have seen that there are several places you can buy them from and I am just wondering if they are the same? If not, which one you guys reccommend buying?

Here are the two links http://www.fidohub.com/product.php?prod_id=38&sort3= and http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15611

Also, someone posted a tutorial on pdf format with all the pictures. Anyone still have it by any chance?

Last but not least, if I have modded a wii by soldering a chip, will I be able to do this?

    Thanks so much,
    Raphael

1:it doesnt make much of a difference really other than whether you want a solder or solderless one.. some people complained about packaging and that it arrived damaged from dealextreme. but it should be better now...
2:if youve done any soldering b4 you should be fine, there is a very good video on youtube. search "how to solder" and you'll be ok.
3: make sure you use the right usb cables for the connections (D+ D- cables for usb connections, GND for GND connections..dont mix them up..)

any more questions just ask, better safe than sorry, especially with these sorta things! :)

These are the connections. Does your Controller look like this one? Yes everything is connected.

I used an ohm meter on the ribbon cable to the screen and the pairs which have continuity are 1, 3, and 2, 4. Of coarse the screen ribbon connector can be plugged into the ZIF connector either way.

The 5 volt lead to the controller measures as a direct short to case ground. I have inspected the controller circuit board with a 16X magnifing glass and there does not appear to be anything shorted.

thanks for the reply!!!! i actually bought the that you have to solder from fidohub... i was reading some of the reviews on deal extreme and people were complaining about their screens arriving cracked... i didnt want to take a chance so i just paid the shipping from fidohub and made it worth while and also ordered their usb bluetooth and a screen protector, lol...

so as far as installing... my question is, when you do use the power from a usb, will that usb still be able to work if i connect it through the external usb? i hope i am making sense... lol...

Found the source of my wiring problem. The harness I built connecting CN11 to TS Controller was built from a four wires from a Motherboard USB header and then I installed heatshrink tubing over the four wires. Well the insulation melted on the wires when the heat shrink tubing was installed and shorted V and G.

I will rewire everything and try again.

Rewired everything and Windows XP found new hardware, installed the drivers, but there is no reponse from the touchscreen. Calibration utility does not do anything, can not bring up any test windows. "Reading Parameters" window comes up but stays blank.

Reverified wires to screen, tested panel resistance when touched.

    Any ideas????

what drivers did you install? when i received my touchscreen, the mini-cd provided had 2 sets of XP drivers and one didnt work that well.. one idea is if you have the second set of drivers uninstall the ones you have now and install the other pair..if you dont, can you print screen your current touchscreen software? and i can mail you the other set of drivers. also, you can email fidohub, maybe he can also provide you with some additional help.

I installed drivers 5.0.1.5310. "Normal PC, Point of Sale (POS), Kiosk and Industrial PC Systems. OS: Windows Vista, XP and 2000 (Not Tablet Edition). Application includes Multi-monitor, Variety of touch mode.

But I see drivers 2.0.0.0525 are available. "Support Windows Vista and XP Tablet Edition inbox Touch Function. Portable PC (Ultra-Mobile PC, MID etc.) Systems. OS: Windows Vista and XP (Tablet Edition). Caution: USB Interface ONLY."

Fidohub has not responded to my emails.

I am able to test the screen with an ohm meter, and I get a full scale needle movement when touching the screen. I am not sure the resistance is correct, but the panel appears to be working.

hm, i still think it might be upside down as the needle might be movingbecause of the pressure of the existing lcd and the touchscreen.

i'll email you the drivers i used when i get home. pm me or post your email address..

Easy enough to flip the screen over now, because it is removed from the LED panel.

I am going to rewire the cable from the controller to the screen ribbon cable at lunch.

Rewired harness from Controller to screen.

Same problem, checked driver version, it was 5.0.1.5301

Installed driver version 2.0.0.0525 and the calibrate test will come up, the computer beeps when I touch the screen, but the first X never stops flashing as long as I am tapping and then the calibration program times out when I stop tapping.

Installed driver version 5.0.1.5310 same results as 2.0.0.0525.

    (edit)

dude im sorry, im not that technical im not sure what those numbers mean :/

however, im just going to state the obvious and you might get an idea... :p

it seems that the controller is connected properly so the cn11 soldering is clear.
it seems the problem is to the screen then so i will ask you the following:

i dont know if this makes sense but what type of cables are you using for the +5V the GND the D- and the D+? are you using thick? thin? single lined cables or the ones that have many in them? i will tell you why i ask once you answer.

p.s: i sent you the email

    Success !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Three things helped

    1) The later drivers (Thanks teh_qube)
    2) Disconnecting the USB mouse I was using because the touchpad and keyboard are still removed. (once it started using the touchscreen, I could use the USB mouse again)
    3) Calibration requires touching and holding the screen at the "X". I was tapping the screen like an idiot.
