half life 2 problems

Hi, i have a problem with both of the half life two. The half life 2 episode 1 i get a "sorry for an inconvenience" message when i get to the main menu of the screen. The death match i get a "application error" message. Any help would be appreciated. I am running a 120GB 1GB ram Version of the aao. Thanks.

 

Someone correct me if I am wrong but it is not playable on the Aspire One.

 

Will half life 1 work? i Got the 2nd version because, it was newer and only $10. Thanks.

I just barely tried Half-Life 1 on the One. It is playable at 800x600, but barely.. the game won't offer the 1024x768 setting because of the one's non-standard "wide" super vga resolution of 1024x600 (SVGA being 800x600).
At any rate, counter strike is awfully slow because Intel underclocked the GMA950 to get it down to the 20W thermal envelope... still ridiculously higher than the cpu's 4W TDP.
The more players are in the game the worse it gets ... I was in a game with 8 other players and couldn't get it to run smoothly enough to be enjoyable... even with the 16bit rendering setting at 640x480.
Single player half-life should be OK though.

Half-Life 2/Counter Strike 2: don't bother installing those, it is a waste of your time. I have this other laptop, A core Solo 1.86 GHz with the "full speed" GMA950, and it wouldn't run good on that.

sorry to intrude on the windows section, but I'm running hl2, and episode 1 on my aao. I'm using mac. It doesn't give that "hl2.exe had to shut down message." It also doesn't stutter much (LOVE IT!!!)
