My hard drive is chattering almost nonstop. Is this normal even if nothing is going on?

edit: to be more specific...the HD seems loud. I realize the thing stays in perpetual motion with windows XP going, it just seems louder than I'm used to. Maybe that's the nature of having such a small machine without much plastic to buffer sounds.

Yeah, hard drive clicking is normal and has something to do with power management. My two-year-old laptop has been doing it incessantly, and it's still working. :|
