I was just wondering if anyone had though about making a distro for One yet. Someone has for the eeePC called eeebuntu if I remember correctly. If not, would anyone want to try to do this? I really do not know redhat much at all any more (it has been quite a few years since I have run it, and yum was not even in existence. I really prefer debian and ubuntu much more.
Let me know if anyone else would like to try to do something like this. Alternatively if something like this already exists, can someone please point me to this, as I have not found this yet.

There's really no point to it, since Ubuntu runs fine normally. Adding in a few of the tweaks might be nice - there's some work going toward making a kernel for the AAO to reduce boot time. Other than that, stock ubuntu is pretty decent, and the guide on the ubuntu wiki makes adding everything else a breeze.

Well a dedicated distro would remove the need for even using the ubuntu wiki, everything would just work right out of the box (wireless would be the big thing). As far as I know it works well on the eeePC as well, but the distro has been optimized. I was thinking of something either based off of xubuntu or just something completely new with lxde as the desktop... that is turning some heads now I guess.

Also, from what I understand the storage expansion slot does not work quite right in ubuntu and sound doesnt work without messing around. A dedicated ubuntu distro for the One could have a userbase, it could be based off of the netbook version (just like the eeeUbuntu is). I am already starting to hate fedora again because the package management is just crap. Ubuntu would be a good choice as it is so user friendly, I would just like to get a few others on board to help out with it.

I don't have that much information to give now, but I'm working on a remastered version of Ubuntu for the ONE. I should have something available on onebuntu.org in a few days. In the meanwhile, I would be glad to discuss this with other Ubuntu users. Drop by IRC if you can: #onelinux on irc.freenode.net

Would perhaps joining eeeBuntu be a better option? They are already building an Ubuntu variant with support for the eee hardware. If we could get our fixes added to their build it might be quicker

According to the rumors the Dell 910 is supposed to be out today 8/22/2008. Supposedly it will be offered with Ubuntu. I wonder If this variant/distro might be adaptable for our purposes? :)

I would be intrested in getting involved in this, yes I saw the rumours aswell and so did retailers in the UK who all seemed to drop the AAO prices in the last few days to stop Dell out selling them all. If there is an ISO posted of the Dell 910 it might be useful although I imagine it'll just be a vanilla ubuntu install, possibly with the NBR or maybe just the config for the processor - none the hardware is anything out of the ordinary
