    I've got a new AOA 110 with 16GB SSD.

Looking an a memory site it mentions that the high capacity SD cards are not backward compatible, can someone confirm that these Acer netbooks can read HCSDs OK.

Should have typed HCSD and I think refers to anything over 2GB

    That sounds fine, thanks.

I have used high capacity SD cards (SDHC 6Gb, 8Gb and 16Gb) in both my 8.9 and 10.1 inch AA1's. The 8.9 will not boot from an SD card of any size except when it is installed in an external USB SD card reader. The 10.1 inch will boot from an SD or SDHC card with the internal SD card reader.

Thanks for info, I have booted ubuntu to a USB but an SD card is neater so I want to give that a go, I think SD cards are faster than USB in many cases.

I have the 8.9 version so it wont boot directly but I intend to try creating a small partition to load the kernel and initrd file and then boot the SD card.

That should work. I have used the left side SD card reader with a 16Gb SDHC card for my home partition so I feel sure what you are planning will work if the initrd file can give a location that the computer can see.

I'm a bit unsure about the left side SD card reader, doesn't it just merge it with the SSD.

I was looking for a completely separate OS (Ubuntu URM) on the SD card, Linpus is very simple so I want to stay with it for a while but the update facility is annoying, I cannot get mine to work despite following advice on this forum.

I am pretty sure that only works with Linpus unless you add extra software and soft modifications.

I use the SDHC cards designed for the Asus EEPC (as stated in my signature) on a daily basis. I also have a few other SDHC cards that I use to transfer files and for digital photo's. I use Windows XP.
