HD Playback - My Experiences

    I played with both XP and 7 and I couldn't resist persevering with 7 cause I absolutely love the OS (a fan since the betas)... Here is my setup that plays most 720p HD smooth. Firstly, not all 720p HD are the same. Bitrates differ as do file formats. .avi + .mkv + .mp4 all make it complicated as I have found not one player will play them all smooth.

    I have the 7 media player, Media Player Classic - Homecinema ( and Cyberlink PowerDVD 9.

    A 720p mp4 downloaded from youtube plays smooth in PowerDVD 9, but not on the other 3. A 720p IMAX movie will play smooth on MPC-HC but not the others.

    And that's with full aero running with gadgets. I refuse to chop back 7, or I may as well be running XP.

    Everything under 720p seems to play well for me in XP and 7.
