Alice, both of these programs claim to work for the AA1 so they should be fine for all models. The second one seems better to me. If you set them to kick in at a lower temperature then it should keep the heat down. My concern however is that if you alter the fan settings badly and cause the fan to start at a higher temperature then you could damage the netbook and have a genuine firerisk. Under those conditions Acer will take no legal reponsibility for any damage because you have modified the computer to work under your own conditions. Excercise some caution before altering the fan settings.

    Thank you.

I guess I was just wondering if someone who also owned the AAo 10.1" AOD150-1165 was using one of these utility programs (or similar utility program for Acer) and what their opinion was about that particular program.
I've read on the net that quite a few people were using the A1CTL program and rather liked it. But, it might be hard to configure (adding 'on-load,' etc.).

    Alice

P.S. Read the following on the net: "There are two good applications to control fan control - AA1 fan control (google it for links) and A1CTL. However, only one controls the CPU speed too (A1CTL)."

You can adjust cpu speed within windows without installing anything. Just click on the battery/ac adapter icon in the notification area and adjust the cpu speed.
    Max battery - 800mhz
    Laptop - 800mhz-1600mhz
    Minimum power management/max performance - 1600mhz

Thanks. I wasn't really interested in changing the CPU speed. I was interested in the ability turn fan on/off, slow down, etc.

Jackluo, would reducing the cpu speed reduce the heat emitted by the Acer?

    Of course.
There are lots of ways to reduce heat
-Reducing your color profile from 32bit to 16bit
    -Turn off unused usb ports
-turn off unused wifi or lan
    -turn off unused card reader
    -lower the screen brightness
    -Lower the volume

BTW... the heat is nothing to worry about as long the cpu temperature is below 70-75 degrees. The case shouldn't burn you, but "Warm Laptop" is prefectly fine.

Thanks Jackluo, that's interesting. I will try altering some of the settings you suggest.

My AOD 150 left USb port gets extremely hot when there is something plugged in.

I believe the fan is blowing the hot air into the usb port.

Especially gets hot when I'm using windows movie maker to edit youtube videos.

You can turn off almost everything, including lan and webcam through device manager. It doesn't require any form of 3rd party software.

USB port is suppose to get hot... not because the fan is blowing hot air on it.

Just got mine in but it stinks from the fan slot. like a burning smell. Should I be worried, or is it because it's just new? Thing seems to run fine and the fan is working.

I don't have any weird or burning smells from the fan slot. Perhaps you have a more acute sense of smell than me. If there is a strong smell of burning you should probably mention it to the shop you bought it from or try and contact Acer technical support.
