    Hi all!!

A newbie here. Its a bless that I've come across this website for all to share. I just bought an Acer D250 that comes with Windows XP Home SP2. I tried to change the OS (Windows 7 Home premium) but unable too. I'm seeking help in solving the issue. I'm doing a clean installation on the netbook HD and whenever the Win 7 installation had completed, the netbook will auto reboot itself and will go the Acer Recovery Management. Reset the netbook several times for it to go to the Windows 7 splash page but it still go to Acer Recovery Management. i had no other choice but to reformat to Win XP again. Do I have to upgrade WIN XP to Vista and then to Win 7 or is there any other way. Pls help!

    Welcome to the site !

How are you installing windows 7? Here's what I did to get win 7 on my laptop....

    1. turn off D2D recovery (setting in the bios)

    2. Copied the win 7 cd files over to a folder on my HD

    3. when in XP, run the setup file and started the win 7 install from xp.

    4. followed the instructions to "upgrade" to win 7.

what this did was put the old xp installation into a windows.old folder and virtually did a clean install.

This worked quiet nicely for me, hope it helps.

Sounds good, I may try this method instead of making the bootable usb. Thanks for the advice. Good luck OP.

Don't forget you can always re-partition the drive to remove the hidden recovery partition. Here's what I did:

    * Created a bootable USB drive using a Win9x boot image
    * Copied Partition Magic Pro 8 DOS utilities to the USB drive
    * Booted from the USB, ran Partition magic to remove all partitions
    * Booted Win7 DVD from USB DVD-RW drive, performed Clean Install as per usual (allowing the installer to partition the drives)

This gives me the whole drive to fark with.

NOTE: if you are booting the Win7 DVD, you can also do CTRL+SHIFT+F10 (from within the setup application) to access a command prompt, and use the DiskPart utilitiy to "CLEAN" the drive of all known partitions etc, Disabling D2D recovery is also a must as previously stated

I guess we'll find out if this works. I didn't turn off the D2D option in the bios prior to Windows 7 install. I did change the boot order to bring the external dvd drive to the top of the list. I'm hoping that I can just turn off the D2D option after the install is complete, and not run into too much hassle.

Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Server 2008(+R2) Are designed to be installed from USB.

I followed the instructions from the MSDN Developers blog. I can't find the link now but this is a copy of the same instructions.

Also if you have win7 as an ISO already, Microsoft them self has a tool to make a bootable USB for vista/7/08' (Any OS that installs with a WIM) from XP/2003 or newer.
    http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool

I know that this tool is for the "MS store", It does work with Technet versions and with ISO's you made yourself of your retail DVD with winISO or similar program.

With thumb drives so cheap these days. it is not a bad idea to keep a few about for dedicated uses. Like one with win XP installer, one with win7, a dos boot one with tools like bios utilities and a ghosting program with possibly a recovery/backup image on it. possibly one for installing applications and drivers.

i literally have a keyring of bootable thumb drives to be able to restore/rebuild almost any system in both my personal and work environment.
