Help needed with sound on my Aspire 7730.

    Hi I was given a DVD film yesterday,now i normally watch them on TV but as i had my laptop out at the time i thought i would try it out on there.
    The picture quality is fine but there is no sound at all. I then tried another DVD film and that was the same,i then put a CD album in,and the sound is fine. I have made sure the volume is up on both the DVD and the laptop,to no avail,yet CDs are not a problem.
    Yesterday was the first time i had put a DVD in the machine,so this problem may have been there since new.
    More annoying was when i got my receipt out,yes you have guessed it,the guarantee run out yesterday.
    Any suggestions?
