Help !!! Only had my little acer aspire one for just over a week but twice when I have let the battery go low enough that the unit will switch itself off I have had real trouble getting it to reboot properly, eventaully it fully loaded but only after several on / off attemtps. let the battery go flat again last night, went to use the pc tonight with the supplied mains charger and the unit would again not boot up properly, it gets as far as the blue acer aspire one screen and then just hangs,if left long enough say 2 to 3 minutes screen goes black with just a staic cursor at the top left han side off screen ie. black screenwill allow me to switch off the unit by way off the main on / off switch but thats it nothing else on the keypad works.

orange and green led will light up as well as the main green on / off led when the blue acear aspire one screen apears but sure this is just confirming that there is power getting thru - correct ??

have tried booting up with / without the main battery / mains power etc but same happens in all circumstances.

faulty machine or is this normal ?? am now on my second unit , no modifications whatsover carried out and begiining to wonder if reliably wise they maybe are not that good after all ??

anyone able to give any advice regards the above problem before I decide if its going back for a replacment or a refund ??!!

Okay folks just a quick folow up before bed !! tried again one last time and again it went thru the same routine ie. turning on, staying on blue acer aspire screen with the screen eventually going dary with the static curser, left it whilst working away at the main computer and after a few minutes noticed that the pc had fully booted up, whats all that about then ???!!

to be honest if this happens everytime the battery in the pc dies enough to power off the machine then guess this may not be the pc for me, but would appreciatte any advice regards this being a possible fault or just the nature off the unit itself ??

    cheers

I've had the same problem from time to time. I've had my AAO since October and used it intermittently until Christmas, and more regularly since. In the early days I had the hang-up on the blue screen a few times, but I noticed that if I left it, it would reboot after about 2 minutes and usually start OK.

Since Christmas, I've just been closing the lid when I finish, and the AAO restarts with the same screen as when I closed it. At least, that's the case when it's not left for a long time. Recently, I've had 3 occasions when I've left it more than a day. In each case, the battery has been flat for the restart, I've plugged the power lead and the AAO has rebooted to a clean screen, after the first hang.

I've now tested it a bit, and from 100% at sleep, the battery loses about 10% within 16 hours, and goes flat in less than 48 hours. I leave it with a network cable, USB mouse and the switched-off power lead connected. I'm going to repeat the test tonight with everything unplugged.

I've not had the reboot after the blue screen fail yet, but it does take nearly 4 minutes overall. I'm assuming the battery will no longer hold a charge for very long, although it still gives me nearly 2 hours to the 'Low Battery' warning.

BTW, I have a 120GB hard disk and Linpus.

Any ideas for a proper test of the battery?

    Hi Folks,
i just had a similar problem (won't say the same). In my case the ONE want boot up at all. There was only the Power LED lit and the Caps and Num Lock where flashing once. I can hear the harddrive running or a fan.
I sent a RMA request to Acer yesterday and today they forward me some instructions how to flash the bios. After that my ONE is up running again
Attached you will find the bios software and instuctions how to flash. I have a AOA 150-BW don't know if its the same for your ONE.

Hope this will help some of the "dead" ONE owner

Just saw that the file is too big for uploading (about 900KB) please send PM if you are interested in .

    greets

OK - an update on my battery loss of charge. I charged the battery fully while was working, then closed the lid. I unplugged the power supply, network cable and USB mouse. I then checked the battery at intervals, with the AAO on for about 20 seconds each time. The battery state of charge was as follows:
    18 hrs 91%
    24 hrs 82%
    30 hrs 68%
    44 hrs 52%
    52 hrs 42%

Compared with the previous problem, this is a very slow rate of decay. I will try again with the power cable left plugged in. This seems the most likely culprit.

    Regards

I have a similar problem, I suspect the mainboard is fauty. I have had mine for 2 weeks.

It powers on for a second and turns off again. At first I thought it was the power supply until I checked it with a voltmeter.

I have made a complaint to acer and will see what happens.
