Help! not going into stand by mode

For some reason my one will not go into standby mode unless i manually tell it to standby. I have the time set to 5 minutes for standby, but it just never goes into standby. I figured that I would remedy this by setting it to standby at the close of the lid. This seemed to be working fine until today. I had it running was in a hurry, shut it and stuck it in the case, it didn't go into standby, and when i looked at it several hours later it was at and extremely high temperature. I'm very worried about this happening again.

The point is, does any one know why the one wouldn't go into standby when the power settings tell it to. I have the hard drive model, stock xp running.

 

There might be numerous number of issues causing your problem, mainly USB devices, but to start somewhere I would recommend this knowledge base

I fix my stand by problem (freezed) when i change the webcam driver (search info in this forum). I replace the driver with microsoft driver.
Since i have no problem.
Upgrade your A1 to bios 3309 too.
