    So once again redhat is making me want to tear my hair out with their package manager (stopped using redhat back in version 7 because of this type of thing).
    At any rate, I am trying to install pidgin via the command sudo yum install pidgin
    It then errors out with
    Setting up Install Process
    Parsing package install arguments
    Resolving Dependencies
    --> Running transaction check
    ---> Package pidgin.i386 0:2.4.3-1.fc8 set to be updated
    --> Processing Dependency: libpurple = 2.4.3-1.fc8 for package: pidgin
    --> Finished Dependency Resolution
    Error: Missing Dependency: libpurple = 2.4.3-1.fc8 is needed by package pidgin

    lipurple is installed but when I try to install the required version it then complains that it is older than the one that I have installed.

    What can I do to fix this? I feel like an idiot for asking, but fedora is out of my normal debian user experience ;).

    Thanks
