Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help.

I have in my care a friend's Acer, which was running slow.

It was riddled with spyware, so I installed security and removed it, then tried to run an update. Update won't connect through Explorer.

It still has lots of problems, explorer.exe won't start, takes hours to shut down etc...

I tried recovering but Alt F10 crashes.

What are my options for recovering this computer?

I have no recovery disks, so would need to use a pendrive.

It's a D250-0Br with XP HE SP3. I'd just like to restore to factory settings with a working AltF10 partition.

Can anybody advise me on my next step with this machine?

    Thanks in advance,

    Karl

Can you connect and surf the internet with IE? If you can it may be a case of your friend installing an illegal version of windows and that could be why it will not update.
