    Hey Everyone,

Can anyone help me overclock using setfsb. I've tried using the ICS9LPRS365BGLF PLL mentioned in another post, but always get "PLL id" error. I've also tried older versions of setfsb since someone mentioned the latest version (6/6/09) has errors.

I've never used setfsb before, and I can't tell whether I'm an idiot or if something is actually wrong.

    Thanks in advance!
    -Josh

    Felix[GER] and Darick,

THANKS SO MUCH! Using the 2.2.114.86 version (2.2.114.89 is 6/6/09) combined with the screenshot worked!

What do you think is a "safe" speed?

    No problem ;)

i use a FSB of 145 which results into a maximum speed of 1450mhz, seems rock stable.

You can also create a shortcut like this "C:\Tools\SetFSB\setfsb.exe -w1 -s145" and put it into your autostart folder, this will keep your Acer at speed all the time. I´m not too concerned about the battery-life, since speed-stepping works already in 4 steps and will underclock your CPU when less power is needed.

    Greetings,
    Felix

    Felix,

Thanks for the startup tip also. I owe you!

One thing that I've noticed is that whenever the computer goes to sleep, it reverts back to the original speed. I've been searching for a way to keep it persistently set, but haven't had any luck.

If you're using win7, you can schedule the machine to run setfsb when you log in, as well as when you unlock after sleep. Remove the setfsb shortcut from autorun and go into task scheduler.

Pick create task, and type in a name and descr, tick "run with highest privileges", go to triggers, click new, and pick "at logon", click ok.Pick new again, and choose "on workstation unlock". Go to actions, click "new" and type in the path to setfsb, under arguments, type in -s145 -b1. Under "Start in" type in the path to the folder setfsb resides in,- click ok. Under Conditions, untick "stop if the computer is running on battery power", and click ok. Now, setfsb will be running no matter what you do.

Another tip: Use Firefox 3.5,- the RC came out two days ago,- it runs ALOT faster on these machines,- especially with adblock that disables most flash stuff.

Also, note that the latest Intel driver for the GPU really IS the latest, they just do strange things to version numbers,- eg the 1095 driver on the acer site is ALOT older than the latest one on the intel page.

For excellent playback of 720p and even 1080p, install http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec.htm
It includes CoreAVC, which works in WMP11.

With regards to flash video,- nothing can be done until intel releases a driver that can interface with the hardware acceleration layer in flashplayer.

    Enjoy :)

    hey zicada!

thanks alot for that guide, but unfortunantely it doesn´t work on my german Win7 RC 7100 :( but will try it again tomorrow, your guide seems logical to me.

nice hint about the new firefox, but i´m using Google Chrome on my desktop and on the new Acer. I like the speed an the way Chrome handles with Tabs. Here is a screenshot of my setup, i think you get it in terms of real estate ;)

    http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/6517/desktop2h.jpg

i there a benchmark to test different browsers, i´d like to have the fastest on my acer. But actually i´m very happy with Chrome.

    Greetings,
    Felix

As you can see by my post count I am new.

Does this SetFSB thing allow the 1.6GHz atom to be overclocked also?

Is it worth running a stability test such as OCCT once the overclock is set?

Recommend grabbing win7 7231,- seems to have been the final leaked build before RTM. It should work on 7100 as well though,- have another look at it, the interface in task scheduler is a bit silly imo.

Nice setup,- the only reason i don't use chrome is i need adblock. I know there are adblock type plugins for chrome, but they don't work as nicely as adblock still. Good point on the tabs etc though,- it really does give you more screen realestate.

This is the standard benchmark to for measuring javascript performance: http://www2.webkit.org/perf/sunspider-0.9/sunspider.html
Chrome is still ahead,- but with the new javascript engine in 3.5, firefox is closing the gap quite a bit.

Yes on both,- i've seen some N270 users being able to get their cpu up to 2 ghz. Just google around to find out what clockgen to use.

zicada - Thanks for the help! One thing that I had to do was remove the setfsb directory from "Start In..." because it would continue to fail in task manager. Since I changed that, it's been smooth sailing.

I agree that Firefox 3.5 is MUCH faster. I haven't actually installed the 3.5 build from Mozilla yet, but I tried some optimized builds from a post on Lifehacker. My only issue was that Firebug alpha was causing some problems, and since I need it for work, I had to go back to 3.1 (buildname: Sluggy).

    Thanks again for the help!

Probably because he uses an older version of CPU-z. In his version, the processor is identified as an Atom N270...which I believe no 751 has.
