When I tell it to hibernate it goes to a screen that says it is preparing to hibernate and then stays there.I have to power it off to recover.

    Any ideas?

First make sure you don't have a corrupted hibernation file that is never being overwritten:

Try disabling hibernation from the hibernate tab in power, open your c drive under my computer and select tools > folder options > view, enable all the hidden files and disable hiding, make sure there is a hiberfil on your C drive. If you find a hiberfile, move it to the recycle bin, run disk cleanup, cleanup temp files and everything except compression and logs. Restart. Enable hibernation. Tell machine to hibernate.

Working now. I unchecked it and hit apply, then rechecked it and hit apply and it's working! Thanks!
