How do I expand my desktop?

    Sometimes when I disconnect my 8.9" from my 19" monitor, my desktop remains in the resolution and I can drag my mouse to the side of the screen, and it moves around the desktop, and I have more desktop space. It is neat.

    How can I get this setting right now? I tried messing around in the graphics options but I don't see an option for it.
