    I have an Acer Aspire One netbook (XP). On AC the computer runs on full power, but when I unplug the AC adaptor, and run the computer on batteries, it drops back to about 1/2 speed.

    I can't figure out how to get the computer up to full speed on battery. The secondary function keys don't work (I think there's a power setting there) and I've upgraded the BIOS. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Follow these steps to solve the issue
    -> Click the start menu. Type the word "powercfg.cpl" and open it.
    -> Navigate to "Power Schemes" tab.
    -> Click the arrow under "Power schemes." Choose the option of "Max battery."
    -> Go to the "Settings for Max battery power scheme" section.
    -> Choose the all categories under for both columns.
    -> Click on "Apply" and "Ok".
    -> Restart your computer.

    Been there done that. Max battery is a scheme that gives you maximum battery life, not maximum power. After doing a search through this forum, and other forums, it appears there really is no solution to this problem, or the solution is not easy, so I downloaded a program called NHC Speed Control. Not sure if it's working, but it's free and it says the CPU is running full power even on batteries.

    Not sure what Acer was thinking, other than the standard battery was so small the netbook would have run out of power in short order with the CPU at full speed. The IBM I'm on now has a High Performance setting that will engage even on batteries. The power options on the Acer are very limited. I can't even change the settings through the BIOS, although I'm sure there is a way to hack this thing. I just don't know how.

    You have to flash to bios to an earlier bios version such as A01. I don't recommend doing this, as the new bios also has changes that significantly increase overall performance.
