    I'm getting rather fed up withe this splash screen ... I've no idea why anyone would think I would rather stare at a blue screen than the error messages which it's hiding....which I then spend days searching for. At least twice now it's taken ages to boot and come up finally with something broken (shutdown no longer shuts down for example)

    I've replaced the grub with a more conventional version...so I least I cane get that bit working, but he actual kernel boot
    still puts up the blue screen .. I have splash=0 (also slash=verbose) but still I can't see the boot messages! .... gurr

    Not sure if this will help, but here's the top of my grub.conf file:
    Code:
    # grub.conf generated by anaconda
    #
    # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
    # NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
    # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
    #          root (hd0,2)
    #          kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/sda10
    #          initrd /initrd-version.img
    #boot=/dev/sda
    default=0
    timeout=60
    splashimage=(hd0,2)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
    # hiddenmenu

    title Leonidas 2.6.zz.y-xxx  Rawhide-LXDE sda13
    	root (hd0,12)
    	kernel /vmlinuz9 ro root=/dev/sda13
    	initrd /initrd9
