I seem to have this issue as well. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router, and was wondering if that was the issue. But I have had it drop (not as often) elsewhere. I have the Atheros Wireless Driver v7.6.1.194 and have the 3309 BIOS installed.

One thing I did was disable the power saving, as well as IPv6, but it didn't seem to help.

Maybe just a coincidence but I was using the WRT54GL router with DD-WRT installed on it... doubt it's the router as I never had issues with it before. Now I have the 4965AGN card and a DIR-615 router though I wish I'd gotten the DIR-655 instead. anyway...

I have exactly the same problems, and I'm using the same router/driver/bios as you. However I can be sure that it's a problem with the Atheros driver, because I've used a couple different firmwares for my WRT54G, and upgraded my bios a couple of times, and also the WiFi worked fine when I was using XP. It's just Vista/W7 that the Atheros has problems with.

Right, I'm having the same problem with wifi under Windows 7. Can you compare: viewtopic.php?f=70&t=1175
Do you have the same experience? Overall wifi is fine and stable for me, it doesn't drop and stays on for hours. Just when I transfer a larger amount of data it freaks out.
Under Fedora it works fine. So, it's either Windows 7 or the driver. I've just been thru all drivers I can get. No major differences. Started with 1.184, then 0.264, then 1.194, then I don#t know what. Just installed 1.210 with the Atheros client. That one doesn't work at all (all others at least worked so far). It doesn't seem to install the drivers. Maybe these are really not 7/Vista compatible.
I installed the 1.210 package in Vista com mode as it threw errors without that. The other drivers I installed without comp mode (well, most of them are just inf files with driver).

For all with the same problem, try this:
I reduced the card to use only 11b and now it doesn't freak out anymore. The speed dropped by less than half. So, for those that suffer from the same problem, I suggest to try this "solution".
I'd be interested what others get as a regular stable speed when transferring larger files within your network. I get 650 Kbit/s for 11b and around 1 MBit/s with 11g (until it freaks out, of course). With Fedora I get a steady speed of 1.5 MBit/s. Not marvellous, but better and stable.

I had better luck with 7.6.1.221. Way faster.

All drivers crash for me if they get too fast. Therefore the downgrade to b. No crash anymore. Btw, what is "way faster"?

NO bluescreens and I can move 1.5-2Gig movies and recorded TV shows in a few minutes vs a few hours. I did a 1.89 gig file in 5 1/2 minutes last night over wifi (g)

That's around the theoretical maximum which is a bit unbelievable ;-) But even if it were 10 minutes it would be fast enough. My wifi access point will not allow more than 1.5 or 2 MB/s transfers, yours obviously allows more. The problem is that when I reach this limit Win7 bluescreens no matter which driver.

Where did you find this driver? Are you sure it isn't 7.6.0.221?
