what is advisable is a fresh install of snow leopard on a new partition. there are guides that explain how to do this. what you'll need is a retail copy of snow and not the upgrade version of it.

but i've seen some people upgrade their Leopard installation just by popping in the retail CD and doing the update there. but there is a very high chance of messing up ur existing system :)

the safest bet is really to install on a new partition or a new drive
