How do I switch my operating system? Windows 7 to Ubuntu.

    Hey guys my aspire one came with Windows 7 starter edition already on it but I prefer linux and want to switch to the newest version of Ubuntu. I don't have a pendrive but have an external hard drive. Basically my question is:

    How can I boot the newest version of ubuntu from my external hard drive so I can install it over Windows 7?

    Please help as soon as possible. If you can point me toward a guide here or elsewhere that would help me accomplish this, it would be helpful.
