Since I'm accustomed to using Windows, I want to use the GUI Package Manager to install software.
When I click on a heading, eg Applications, I see a number of packages such as Authoring and Publishing, or Educational Software.
If there is no tick against a package, I would expect nothing from that package to be installed.
But I saw that Sound and Video package did not have a tick, then when I put a tick and clicked Optional Packages, I found that mplayer was one of the items listed, and mplayer is already installed on the netbook.
Can anyone explain to me how this happens? I like to understand the software I'm using.
