    Hello, all.

I'm considering buying an AAO (Linux, 512M, HDD).
My only concern is the battery life, and I thought the 6-cell looked awful.

Anyway, although these are not actually on sale yet (UK), I've spotted 3 different types of battery so far:

    6600 mAh
    http://www.supergps.co.uk/extended-battery-for-acer-aspire-one-blue-zg5-um08a73-6600mah-p-3630.html

    4400 mAh
    http://www.supergps.co.uk/battery-for-acer-aspire-one-blue-zg5-umo8a73-4400mah-p-3625.html

EDIT: Ok, this was just stupid. The following is not a battery for the AAO.

    4800 mAh, 8-cell (??)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1222430047&sr=8-2

    Anyone heard of these?
Perhaps the 4400/4800 mAh ones are smaller?
What's the deal with the 8-cell?

EDIT: Nevermind the silly 8-cell business. But the question remains, what are these 4400 mAh batteries like? Anyone heard of them?

    Thank you very much!
(apologies if this has been raised before. Couldn't find it in the forum.)

There's a Samsung 3 cells 4800mAh battery available, part # BT.00307.003 (expansys have it on pre-order and SourceIts has it in stock apparently for $75!)

The stock 6 cells is 5200mAh, there's at least 2 others listed 3 cells 4400mAh from Acer

Ouch, £75 for the one on Expansys....
Let's see if that £40 supergps one turns out to be true.

I suppose being 3-cell means that the dimensions and weight should be closer (or the same) to the stock battery in the AAO?

I guess so, using higher capacity cells of 1600mAh/ea instead of 750mAh-ish

Edit: hmm, this doesn't make sense, the capacity is PER CELL!

The battery that comes with the AA1 is 10.8V 23.76 Wh
Which means 2200 mAh 3.6V per cell

    2.2Ah x 3 cells x 3.6V = 23.76Wh

    Edit: here goes

    Sanyo UM-08A31 LI-ION 3 cell (stock on my A150L)
    2200mAh/24Wh 10.8V
    BT.00303.008

    2.2Ah x 3 cell x 3.6V = 23.76WH

    Simplo UM-08B74 LI-ION 6 cells
    5200 mAh/60Wh 11.1V
    BT.00607.042

Samsung cell (korea), assembled in china

    2 x 2600mAh cell in parallel

    2.6Ah x 6 cell x 3.7V = 57.72Wh

    4800 mAh

    2400 mAh cell in parallel

    2.4 x 6 x 3.6 = 51.84Wh
    2.4 x 6 x 3.7 = 53.28Wh

    4400 mAh (not avail?)

2200 mAh cell in parallel (same as the 3 cells one)

    2.2 x 6 x 3.6 = 47.52Wh (10.8V)
    2.2 x 6 x 3.7 = 48.84Wh (11.1V)

Thanks a lot for all the information!
    It does make sense now.

I'll keep an eye on that supergps one or anything else that might pop up in the meantime.
    Thanks, again.

I see... the plot thickens. :)
In the end, I would just want something the same size and weight as the stock 2200 mAh.
If it was 4400 mAh or more, so much the better.
Does anyone know if these 4400 mAh ones are official or Acer plans to roll them out?

    Thank you, everyone.

Daijoubu... how many 18650 cells did you find in the battery pack?

Just thinking of a After Market product that could just be the battery housing (same size as the 3 cell pack) so the user could replace the 18650 cells when they run out of juice, just replace with a extra set of 18650 on hand when needed...
This would also keep the weight and size down on the AA1...

Mind posting some pics/a short tutorial on opening the battery pack?

According to Kevin from SourceIT, the 4400 and 4800mAh batteries are standard size 3-cell batteries with higher capacity individual cells. I think it's a great buy if weight remains the same. However, it'd be really cool if they use the same capacity cells in the 6-cell battery, which means it'll have somewhere around 9600mAh.

You are wrong! Simplo 4400mAh batteries are bigger.

No such thing as 4800mah - I ordered one from Kevin and have been downgraded to (I think) a 4400mah one. He says Acer made a typo on their catalog.

Hmmm, 18650 type cells huh? I think you could get some new cells and put them in there quite easily. I'm into RC cars (The big kind, fast and suck battery tanks and nitro tanks empty in 15-20 minutes) and it's quite common to get quality cells and make your own pack. So I looked at some of the sources for batteries and came up with this:

Here's some 18650 type cells and chargers:
    http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?P ... tegory=739

Ebay source: (Has tabs already on batteries for easy soldering)
    http://stores.ebay.com/All-Battery-Cent ... idZ2QQtZkm

    These are also nice cells:
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4757

Now, if I could just get my hands on an empty 3 cell case, I'd be all set! I think I'd rather get one of the 4400mah 3 cell packs and then disassemble the one it came with to stuff it with higher quality cells.

So who's going to give this a shot now? :)
