There is no option for battery calibration in the BIOS on the AAO series - Not needed, since the AAO uses Li-Ion batteries. Li-Ion batteries do not have the "memory-effect" present in older battery technology such as Ni-Cad, and Ni-mH. Deep-discharging a Li-Ion battery is actually detrimental to iits health, since it will provoke internal chemical residue on the lithium anodes, which will decrease the batterycapacity over time (what is shown as battery-wear in utils such as Battery-Info).

Best usage practice for Li-Ion - If it has to be stored, store it at a charge-level between 40 and 80 %, not fully charged, nor discharged.
During use, try to prevent it from fully discharging, preferably never let it go under 5-10 %. Since Li-Ion doesn't have the memory effect, even short charge cycles are ok, but it is preferable to let it charge to at least 40 % capacity, in order to minimize the possibility of residue buildup.

Although what you've mentioned about Li-Ions are generally true.... However, it is not true that battery calibration is not needed. It's just that the AAO does not have this feature. Battery calibration is available on certain laptops, all with Li-Ion batteries, I don't know of any today that's not Li-Ion. Anyways, the purpose of calibration is that over time, windows will start to yield inaccurate time remaining and capacity of our batteries. You can test this buy running down your battery, see it hit 0% and still have 15 to 20 minutes before it shuts off. On my Lenovo X60s, it's battery calibration is done by software that runs down the battery(while plugged in on the AC) to 0% then charging again to 100% to recalibrate window's battery guage.

@ Netimports, how long does your batteries last before it hits 1% left(time it, don't base on windows guage)..... if you think that the guage is really off. Then try running down to 3%, then put your AAO in standby until it runs out. Then charge to 100% again, see if it improves anything...

Sounds like the calibration you are talking about is calibrating Windows to see the new status of the battery.

Instead of going by what the meter says just run your computer on battery until it shuts down and see how long it takes. You could do this by writing down the start time and stop time each time you turn on your computer and not the time it shuts down. Of course when you think it is getting close be sure to do a lot of saving of your work. The meter can not be accurate since it does not know what you are using like are you running external drives and so forth.

Yup, that's exactly it. But vendors don't call it that, and refer to it as calibrating the battery(ex. Lenovo Thinkpad X60s).
