If you use search, mail or other services with an account, Google recently provided a "dashboard" for privacy control:
    https://www.google.com/dashboard/?pli=1

Yahoo has also just announced an opt-out for its marketing information, though it seems to offer less control than Google's:
    http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/ ... targeting/

These have to be separately set for each user account. That helps with online storage by the search engines. Of course nobody wants the boss or the wife to find search data on the local machine about that XXX Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Orgy !!!
