I have the 6cell, 160GB version of the AA1. When my system boots, it always shows this aspire-branded splash image with two AA1 laptops (I think after the login prompt). Does anyone know of a way to turn this splash screen off?

Unless there's an option in the BIOS, you probably can't. It's part of the POST process.

spyderms: he's not talking about the bootsplash.
trale: if you cant find anything already on the forums to help you, and you cant live with the branding, then repost with more information and ideally a screenshot (or photograph) of the screen while the graphic you are referring to is being shown. This will remove confusion and someone may be able to help.

I think he's talking about the Windows pre-login wallpaper.
Its Acer.bmp in the C:\Windows\...\Web\ folder (I have to check the full path when I get home, I'll update when I can see my Acer).

But you can find out by looking in the registry here
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\
    Its the key called Wallpaper

you can just delete the Acer.bmp or replace it with your own bmp picture, don't use a jpg.

Yes, the pre-login wallpaper is exactly what I'm talking about:
    C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Acer.bmp

Good to know that I can edit the Registry key to replace it with something else, but if I want to get rid of it completely (to shave off some boot time), is that possible?

What's the name of that "program" that someone mentioned that will let change stuff like this?

hmm strange how i don't have this file : C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Acer.bmp

i even tried doing a file search but nothing came up. the picture does not really bother me, but it would be cool to put my own picture there

I found that by renaming the acer.bmp file to acer.bmp0, so that windows xp wouldn't recognize the file, caused xp to display my selected wallpaper pre and post login.

I've read all the responses to this question, but no one has said how to disable the pre-boot Acer wallpaper. How do I do this?Would doing this save a few seconds of boot time (as well as the display of an annoying advertisement)?

Mine now displays Gateway instead of Acer at boot, it's a more simple more pleasing logo to look at, It's using the Gateway BIOS which is available on macles site. it worked for me but YMMV
