Tried installing imlib packages. Installed OK but could install wbar. I got the following message when I tried:

Missing Dependency: imlib2-loaders is needed by package wbar.

Very perplexing. I have a 1gb model so Ill try plan B!

Plan B: Cairo-Dock installede. Lots of interesting effects, but can't see anything I'd call a dock. Is there something I have to activate?

If you right click cairo-dock you can go to the configure menu, there you can set everything up: auto hide, themes and lots of configuration options. As it is it should give icons for various applications (note this are only default icons which you can change or edit to the applications you want), it also have an space that shows minimized windows. play around with it a bit and let me know if you get stuck on something, ddo you have compiz on? have fun
    you can check this: http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/05/07 ... eye-candy/

    Hi Jimyjazz

This is really good. Almost Mac like and surprisingly fast. The autohide isn't perfect but its much better than the standard Acer desptop. Just got to get a decent wallpaper in place now!
Many thanks. Will try to post a screen shot in due course.

hi jimijazz! i want to say thanks, i was able to find out about the cairo-dock here. it is a lot better than wbar and is more user friendly but does not sacrifice customizability. Here's my desktop now  :
