How to Install newer versions of Applications

    I've recently installed gphoto2 by using yum install, but it's an older version which I'm presuming doesn't support my camera. Anyway, does anyone know how I would go about installing the latest version of gphoto2? I'm assuming there is some way of getting yum to recognise that there is a newer version available and it just picks that up. Or maybe not. All help appreciated.
