I don't know how successful other users have been in doing this, but I encountered an error running the following command:

    Code:
    sudo sed -e's/org3-/org-/' -e's/%U//' -i.1 /opt/openoffice.org3/share/xdg/*
The error referred to a file/location not being found. Possibly as a result of not being able to run this command, I was left with no icons under the 'Work' section group of programs. I also followed the advice in the blog's comments section but these did not work either.

if the icons don't appear after reboot go to the terminal and type this in.

    sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor

after another reboot, they should appear if they don't when you type this in.

Is this still the only way to install it or is there an easier way?

I know it looks a bit involved, but it is the easiest way to get the update done and icons sorted without needing to know anything else about the system. Just copy and paste with care, and it'll all work fine. (Incidentally, the lines with a \ at the end are meant to be single long lines - paste them into something else, get the \ removed, then copy them again as single lines).

This didn't work for me. When I clicked on the icons it loaded the oo3 screen but didn't open the actual program and I get this error message (/home/user/%U does not exist). I deleted oo3, re-downloaded 2.3 through the advanced 'add/remove programs' function and it worked from the right click but not with the icons anymore...

For firfox eventually there was a live update.
Does anybody know if Acer is planning the same for open office. I can live with OO2 and would prefer to update it through live update.

I tried openoffice3 and did not like it, I could not figure out how to create a shortcut for writer, or calc.

On the original openoffice you could launch the components seperately using "oocalc" or "oowriter", can't figure it out for version 3

I wonder if somebody can help me? I have installed Open Office 3.1 ,and unzipped it etc. and it appears in the package manager ticked as installed. But it does not appear in the group-app xml or in the desktop applications. So although it is on my Aspire One I cannot reach it. I am of course new to the Aspire One and Linux Fedora 8.
