[ :?: Hi, could someone please tell me how to install programmes/applications on linpus after they have been downloaded into the download file? I can download setup files into the download folder and access them. However clicking on these files results in the 'one' asking me what programme to open them with and none in the list look plausible so I tried clicking brower but that didn't work. I currently have Adobe Reader and Avast waiting to be used, staring at me from 'downloads'. Please help.

    Thanks, Cookoo.

    Ps. Newbie to linux.

Does this HowTo help, or have you specific downloaded stuff which the package manager can't install for you?

See my first post for the things I wish to download. I tried looking for them in package manager and when that didn't work downloading the executable setup files into the 'download' folder and searching in package manager again. No luck. How do you get the setup to run??

    Thanks for help.

    Cookoo.

Thanks for the help. What about when there is no rpm, like with adode reader? The file downloads into the 'download' folder but I have no idea what do once it gets there. I know I'm probably being thick but please enlighten me.

    tar.gz.

the internet is just full of answers

Ive been away for a month hence late reply
    EDIT
I installed adobe reader 9 from the .bin file and it screwed my system. The browser plugin cocked up my browser losing all settings and bookmarks. luckily i had backed up very recently. Make a backup usb as described here and it will save you a ton of trouble and you can tinker as much as you like..
