    sudo yum install unrar

    Then, urar e archive

You need to install livna/rpmfusion first (rar is NOT free software)

I couldn't seem to be able to install rar or unrar on Linpus, I got yum message 'No package rar available. Nothing to do'

I downloaded and installed rpm file given below, and this worked fine, I can now unrar with Xarchiver.

    Thanks.

I cant imagine a scenario where opening a rar file could be classed as 'urgent' but nevertheless, if you have access to a suitable size usb drive and a windows PC, then you can copy the files onto the USB drive and almost any windows archiving app will deal with rar. By almost any, I mean including but not exclusibe to winrar, winzip, izarc and 7zip.

Sticking with linux, try the rar and rar-free packages, or ask the original source to send you the files in a format that you can more easily deal with.

We are talking about regular, non copyrighted files here, right?

Why mess about like that When my post above yours installs unrar which fixes the problem? You wouldnt have a broken windows system so why should a linux system be any different :?
    Any way as i said..
Open this link then open with software installer
    ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/freshrpms/fedor ... 7.i386.rpm
Once installed the xarchiver should be able to unpack your compressed file. :)
