I found a way out how to change the wallpaper, but its only functional untill the next restart, after the restart i get a blue screen instead of my nice wallpaper i found on google. i use the configuration manager's desktop options to change my wallpaper.

I was able to change it permanently by changing the default.png file in the original directory.
So you have to find it. Not so hard, somewhere within .cache/xfce4... (I don´t remember exactly the full pathway).

    1. alt+f2
    2. xfce-setting-show
    3. click on "Desktop"
    4. look for the Image options.

if you haven't activated the advance mode yet, follow the same procedure up to step 3.

    4, click "Behavior" tab
    5. tick "Show desktop menu on right click"
    6. close
    7. right click on desktop (connect, fun, work, etc) then Setting>Desktop

Same here, the background still reverts to the blue setting after reboot,
Interestingly, the new wallpaper is still selected in the change wallpaper image field, it just doesn't load.

This is how to do it (thanks to the above poster who figured it out):

    1) sudo thunar
    2) change directories to /usr/share/xfce4/backdrops
    3) rename default.png to default.png.bak
    4) rename wallpaper.png to wallpaper.png.bak
    5) copy an existing wallpaper from the directory and paste it.
    6) rename the copied file to default.png
    7) copy default.png and paste it.
    8) rename the copied file to wallpaper.png

    Reboot the computer.

If you want to remove the search bar:

    (first enable advanced mode)
    1) right-click --> system>Add/Remove Software
    2) type in your root password when prompted
    3) click on the Search tab in the middle, and type in acer search
    4) look for the file called acer-search-bar or whatever, and remove it.

The ONLY thing left to do to make this a perfect system, is to fix the search function so that you can use the OPEN FOLDER function. Right now it tries to open Nautilus, which isn't installed. It's using Thunar instead. I have no idea how to fix this problem

The above fix is one way to do it, but if you want to be able to simply use the desktop settings tool to set wallpaper and also use the wallpaper list function (allowing you to have a list of different wallpapers, with one picked randomly at startup), add the following line to the end of /usr/bin/xfdesktopnew

    killall -USR1 xfdesktop2

I had the same problem (wallpaper gone after restart) and suspected it was because the images have to be in the backdrops folder. I tried but could't paste into the folder. I fixed it thanks to another person here who told me how to use the file browser as root (alt f2, then type sudo thunar) and with that was able to copy/paste my own wallpapers into the backdrop folder. They stay now after restart!

Er, I haven't tried this after reboot yet, but it should stay...This is way easier.

    1. Make sure you've activated Advanced Mode.
    2. Right-click on your Desktop -> Settings -> Desktop Settings.
    3. In the "Image" sections, click on the little folder icon, and browse to your image.

Voila. You have a new wallpaper.

    Hope this helps.
