Acer Aspire One netbook running XP Home.

At work, it connects fine to our WRT54G router, unsecured connection.

I shut it down, take it home to our WRT54G, and it connects fine (WPA2), but it does NOT update the DNS numbers. It is still using the ones from work (different ISP), so the internet barely works.

I disable/re-enable the wireless, I 'repair' the connection, I use a batch file (ipconfig /flushdns) and after numerous tries it finally does it.

What can I do one boot-up / logon to reset the wireless DNS????

    Sounds like an ISP issue.
Just go in and set the network properties (TCP/IP) to use a permanent DNS of 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2
These are always fast and 2 of the graddaddies of the internet.

I don't think it's an ISP issue, as once the Acer gets the correct numbers in it, it works perfect. Our router contains the numbers correctly.

I WILL try those DNS servers though. Thanks for the reply.

Does your router at home have the same SSID as the one at work?

Do you do a full shutdown and reboot, or just hibernate or standby between work and home?

I had been putting it in standby/hibernating it, but it was suggested elsewhere this might be the problem. No help.

The SSID at work is the default 'linksys'. At home we call our network FAMILYNAME_Network or the like.

But thanks - ideas are good. :)

As a workaround, and has already been mentioned, I would use manually configured DNS servers until a proper solution is found.

Not sure what the 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1 servers are, but OpenDNS are reliable and are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

    ====UPDATE====

I tried the first DNS numbers at work, connected no problem, worked fine.

The OpenDNS did the same thing. I went ahead and put the Acer into standby and woke it up at home.

It connected on first try and internet works fine.

Thanks all, looks like problems are solved. :D
