    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    I installed the desktop script and after a reboot, it was magically able to update itself. I couldn't see an option to update the repositories though, only select and unselect? Anyway, all sorted now, just having to play around with the desktop, the start menu is all messed up and the taskbar doesn't accept themes nicely.... but at least the graphics drivers are working correctly. :)

    Maybe this is similar to Chris's problem? I had the same message where it just wouldn't find a newer version, but then it magically and randomly does.

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    On my package manager i can only select/unselect - xorg-x11-server-Xorg there are no update options avaliable, my screensaver seems fine now, its just the system seems glitchy and slow. when watching video depending upon what video it either works great or lagging and skipping frames where before the updated driver it played all formats to an acceptable quality. no external monitor working, when pressing the keys nothing happens, could this be because the key settings have changed to a compiz assigned option ?

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    It sounds like the problem I had. I haven't found exactly what the problem was - I just ended up reinstalling the OS. But from what I can work out, it was when I installed the graphics driver without updating xorg-x11-server-Xorg, or when I ran the custom desktop script.

    One thing I did do though, after installing the custom desktop script here: http://www.iphpbb3.com/forum/39151476nx ... -t218.html , which annafil mentioned earlier in the thread as an alternative to the custom desktop I was using, suddently xorg-x11-server-Xorg was able to be updated in terminal (sudo update xorg-x11-server-Xorg), and then I could install the graphics driver without problem. Depends if you want a custom desktop for using that though. It's really weird.

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    Cris: Ah so I'm a couple hours too late..

    See, I'm pretty sure that the graphics driver update i've described above is fairly safe and stable, it's worked for others. But there are a lot of hacks floating around on this forum, not all of them are designed to work with one another. The best way if you're just warming up to Linux is to take it one hack at a time, keep track of what you've done, make backups (there's a howto on this in the howto section). You'll find it's a lot less frustrating that way :)

    I wouldn't give up just yet, but if you decide to put that on hold for now, you can try the rpm i've linked to in one of my previous comments on this thread. It at least fixes the issue with the bands of colour, and it's easy to setup. It's a modification of the one that comes by default on the system. Just download, double click, good to go.

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    No problem installing, but this broke a couple of things on my box.

    First, Fn-F5 no longer switches between external and internal monitors. I have to boot with the external monitor attached, which wasn't the case before the update.

    Second, Fn-F6 no longer blanks the screen.

    Third, there are video artifacts on the screen...banding toward the top and bottom...that go away if I reload the window manager (using compiz).

    None are show-stoppers but are definitely an annoyance, especially Fn-F5. If you unplug the external monitor there's no way to get the LCD back.

    I'll poke around xorg.conf and see if there are fixes there.

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    Perry: its likely not the driver nor your xorg, if you're running compiz then of course it will take over -it's got its own keybindings for stuff! :)

    edit: I suggest playing with the compiz settings - turning down the "texture filter" to "good" or "fine" in "general settings" is best on the newer compiz version. (this is if you have the package "ccsm" installed, it's the advanced compiz settings manager)

    If you're still having issues, post most details here and we'll see if we can debug.

    Annafil, thanks for this guide but you should really consider updating the first post to include this...

    sudo yum update xorg-x11-server-Xorg

    ...because I too came up short when trying to look for xorg-x11-xserver-Xorg in the package manager. Only the above sudo command worked when trying to update xorg. Are you sure YOU actually have xserver on your aaone and not server, like everyone else seems to have ? :lol:

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    I 'downgraded' to the Intel driver here: http://www.mediafire.com/?xudwd9sddhf

    This fixed the Fn-F5 / Fn-F6 issue. Still getting artifacts when running compiz until I do a reload of the window manager.

    It looks like Xorg 1.3 broke the touchpad, too, I hadn't noticed earlier because I usually have a mouse plugged in. Reloading the psmouse module with rmmod/modprobe fixes it.

    Another data point: I have -not- done any of the live updates on this box.

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    Perry: the driver shouldn't be affecting those things directly - maybe you have some incompatibilies inside the xorg.conf file that is causing certain things to not function?

    If you like, try running through my instructions again, post your entire xorg.conf file and we can take it from there

    Motoko: done! I kept forgetting to do that thanks for the headsup.

    Thanks for the offer, I do appreciate it. I took the troubles as an opportunity...since I was considering a re-install anyway, I decided to load up Onelinux Beta 3. It took a while to get the thing even to boot, but now that it's running I'm impressed. Everything seems to work, and I'm back in Ubuntu which I like a lot.

    that's the beauty of linux :) glad you got it working. incidentally, the driver in onelinux should be exactly the same as the one in this thread, I even got the package from Ubuntu ;)

    shadowguy: if you read the threads about update problems (and the comments a little before this page), you'll see that you need to run "sudo yum upgrade fedora-release" before you can use your yum properly.

    Re: Howto: Intel graphics driver 2.2.1, EXA and compiz+video

    Hi,

    Update : yum support is now working

    To make easier installation of 2.3.2 Intel GFX driver, I've re-build some RPMS for Linpus based on Fedora 9 sources
    -> Xorg-Server-1.5, and i810 drivers 2.3.2, Mesa 7.1, ...

    I'm using it since two days now without problem.
    SRPMS come from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/ without modification (except a CC flags in Xserver not supported by our GCC)

    RPMS are available at http://jau.free.fr/AspireOne/
    You can probably add this to your yum repository
    Code:
    [jeje]
    name=Les RPM de jeje pour Xserver $releasever - $basearch
    baseurl=http://jau.free.fr/AspireOne/
    enabled=1
    gpgcheck=0
    failovermethod=priority

    then
    Code:
    yum --disablerepo=fedora --disablerepo=update* update
    rpm -e gsynaptics
    yum --disablerepo=fedora --disablerepo=update* install xorg-x11-drv-synaptics gsynaptics

    Happy testing!

    I've tried but it seem that Compiz-fusion don't work any more with JeJe Repository :/ Return back to annafil solution :) There's some glitches with annafil solution on aspire one interface :s How can we revert back to default linpus drivers?

    SuzuKube: i've posted a link to the original linpus RPM in this thread already...

    what glitches are you talking about? maybe I can help you sort them out because there shouldn't be glitches with this driver if the instructions are followed correctly

    :( unlucky you are... I've using my "jeje" repo and compiz-fusoin still work fine!
    What about 3D acceleration? did you have a look into /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
    I will update the "yum" howto in my previous post with an easy-and-working solution

    Not the new
    Code:
    yum --disablerepo=fedora --disablerepo=update* update
    rpm -e gsynaptics
    yum --disablerepo=fedora --disablerepo=update* install xorg-x11-drv-synaptics gsynaptics
    for annafil : it is when i mouseover the Linpus Icone :/ It's a little buggy...... But i haven't upgrade de xorg Xserver Package, perhaps the problem is from here.... I haven't my one next me and he his on ubuntu :)
