hi, i'm new in Linux and I liked very much the Ubuntu-UMPC version

and I found it thanks to you :!: :p :D

In this site (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/8.10/release/) I found it but I don't know how to get there by only clicking on the link that you posted.

I wish to have a step-by-step direction so I can search for it.
and then look for a new version when it is released because i'm very interested and i;m going to install it in my netbook

    pleaseeeeee!!
early thanks for your reply

Once you get there, you probably want
    ubuntu-8.10-umpc-i386.img (towards the bottom).

That's an image to be burned to a USB drive, although it's assuming you already have an installation to which you download it.

    Then

Open a terminal and plug in your USB key

The USB will probably be /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc. Once you plug it in, you can do something like

    ls -t /dev/sd*

The first one listed (the -t means list by time) should be the USB device. (Because it only appeared in /dev after you plugged it in.

    In the terminal run:
    sudo dd if=/path/to/your/downloaded.img of=/dev/device/you/saw/in/dmesg bs=1024

The USB will probably be /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc. Once you plug it in, you can do something like

    ls -t /dev/sd*

    They have other instructions here.
