Hi, I am helping a friend with her new AAO.
I have a problem that has me puzzled. I can not connect the AAO to my WLAN. I have removed all security from my WLAN to make everything easier. I turned on WiFi with the switch at the front. It shows an Orange light. The AAO sees my network but It will not connect. Does anyone have an idea what to do?

I am having the same problem after having changed my XFCE desktop preferences.

[An error with panel was recurring after I attempted to delete all the panels on my desktop. I managed to get back the panel after a few errors but the notifications do not display (as it did before the changes) the connection to my WLAN.]

I have tried seeing whether the NetworkManager was running (and it was), and switching the WLAN switch on the front of the A1, but it still hasn't worked.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed? :?:

    Same here.

I opened it up, and got it connected. Suddenly, the orange light is on and it won't connect. Tried rebooting, resetting the switch, nothing.

Have you opened the connections manager and entered / saved a profile for your WLAN ?

Here you enter the details such as SSID, password, WEP or WAP (the protocol your router uses). Save this information, reboot the Acer, making sure the wireless switch is on.
    :)

I want to bump this up, I'm having the same problem. It sees my router but won't connect to it. When I turn on the wireless and the orange light goes on, it tells me "The network connection has been disconnected".

I see where to enter the SSID, but what about the rest? I know nothing about Linux.

    Anybody got any suggestions?

eta: I just got this yesterday and it's never gotten connected.

    Hi cocker

1 Have you switched on the wifi switch at the bottom right corner and is the light orange?
2 Under System find Network Centre and open it. This should give you the Connection Manager, then click New.
3 That opens up Network Type and tick WLAN then Next. This should give you the WLAN Settings screen. Click the Select button and you should see Wireless Network List. This will display a list of all wireless networks your PC can see and one of them (probably the strongest signal) should be yours.
4 Select yours and then OK. That should open the WLAN Settings again but this time you should see
    Encryption Type
    Security Type
    Security Key/passphrase
5 Enter if you use WEP or WPA (This should normally be given with your router or some routers generate it it for you. I left my Security Type as Open. The last is the security key from the router as above.
6 Click Next and you should see a summary of what you wish to connect to. Tick Connect After Finish and then Finish. This should take you back to Connection Manager but you should now see your Router. Select Connect and that should be it.

Provided you do not switch off the Wifi in step one the PC on boot should automatically search and find your router.

Let us know if anything does not go to plan.

    Best wishes
