I have owned my Aspire One (with SSD and default Linux) for two years now. Recently, it became very sluggish, and I thought that maybe it needed a little 'housecleaning', like a Windows PC does from time to time. This was a dumb idea, because I know next-to-nothing about Linux.

Using the File Manager, I looked around for directories names "tmp", and deleted their contents. Now, it won't boot all the way into the GUI.

Instead, it stops at a Linux blue screen. Amongst the many messages that scroll by are:
    Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
    intel_rng: FWH not detected
Failed to load x11 FrontEnd module
    Failed to launch SCIM

Do you think there's any way to recover from this? Or will I need to re-install the distro? If so, please point me to a source for a download, and some detailed instructions.

    Thanks for your help,
    Chris
