ACER D250 Mini PCIe #2 Mod!!!

this "SHULD" work for others to not just the D250

I was able to use the second Mini-PCIe for my wifi . :p

This is How to do it. :geek:

    #1 reload Bios BIOS_Acer_1.02_A_A

#2 on your reboot gointo your bios and Load default settings

    #3 Reboot into windows

    #4 load Bios BIOS_Acer_1.07_A_AOD250

#5 Let it reboot Pc and go back into bios and do a default settings

#6 reboot back into windows Exit windows

#8 do the card mod and your WiFi will work in your Second Mini-PCIe slot so you can use a better Full Size card like my intel 5300

    FOR the card mod

pin 20 is "dead" on the second Mini-PCIe slot and that is the Radio Enable/Disable line.

    Low=Disable and High=Enable

If you just put a card in it will just keep "pinging" your wifi light.

#1 so JUST TO BE SAFE we cover pin 20

#2 we will take 3.3Vaux to pin 20 to take it high "Radio Enable"

    #3 you can get 3.3Vaux pin 24 like i did or off pins 52 or 39 or 41 or 2 or 52

#4 put your card in to the second Mini-PCIe slot

    #5 Boot back into windows

#6 well you know what to do from here!

OH yes you can still use the USB off this Mini-PCIE slot at the same time as the wifi cards dont use the USB Lines!!!
    >pin 36 USB_D- and pin 38 USB_D+ < And off the Half Hight slot >pin 36 USB_D- and pin 38 USB_D+ <

 if you do post this Other places please give me my credit
    Thank you. ;)

with 1.02 (without any other bios updates) cutting the left side of wifi on/off button would work with my 3g card so i wouldn't have to tape pin 20, but with 1.06 i'd have to tape pin 20, with 1.07 upon windows startup, it redetected the mini pci-e bus and have to tape pin 20 still...

What does going to bios 1.02 and then 1.07 accomplish?

Have you modified your WiFi switch so that it can slide to the left? The WiFi switch was enabling and disabling the 2nd mPCIe connector fine with the early bios but not the later bios.

i think the later bios is allowing full use of the slot... but without the switch working, pin 20 will have to be taped... maybe acer is planning on updating the 3g card they are currently using??

bios v1.2 flushes the DMI Datapool of all the old settings

and if you want Your wifi switch to work run a wire from pin 20 of the half hight slot to the pin 20 of your card WITHOUT the Power jumper in the second Mini-PCIe Slot
    that shuld work .

Ashram had the WiFi switch working on a Sierra Wireless card (3G) with the 1.02 bios, and no jumpers.

    3G card = USB bus
    WiFi card = PCI bus

I am surpised that the D250 has a fully functioning mPCIe slot. That is good news for D250 owners.

So 3G and WiFi cards use different logic on pin 20?

The final way I did it for my Red acer was to REMOVE pin 20 from the Second Mini-PCIe and run a jumper wire from the first Mini-PCIE pin 20.

Half Hight Cards SUCK unless your a Child EVEN if its the Intel 5300

Full size cards are what you want for the Best WiFi Performance .
Better Rx sensitivity with More and Cleaner Tx Power !

Can you explain the pin 20 logic to me? It seems different between 3G and WiFi cards?
wifi - power on pin 20 (by internal jumper on card) = card enabled
3G - pin 20 taped (no power) = card enabled

wow... well, i had ZERO use of my 3g card after installing bios 1.06, and went ahead an installed 1.07...

just for the heck of it installed my full height 5100... and BAM!!! it detected and works of the same wifi switch! zero soldering at all (with the exception of jerryt adding my sim slot).

taping pin 20 allows me to use my sierra wireless. now i'm curious... what other mini pci-e devices can we test?

now i'm considering the broadcom bcm970012 hd video accelerator...

I have Avermedia A312 mini PCI express ATSC tuner
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Avermedia-A312-Mini ... .m20.l1116

It is a USB device like the Sierra card.

Turns your D250 acer into a battery powered (hurricane season ready) ATSC TV.

I tried the Broadcom video accelerator (It is a PCI bus card) on my AOA150 but got zero acceleration, so I returned the card.

well, i went ahead and ordered a bcm970012.
if it doesn't work, then to my laptop it will go...

too bad there isn't really a whole lot of info available on the net for this.... i'll have to peak throw the drivers later today.

it seems power dvd supports it (latest version), wonder if arcsoft total theater does.

either way, i'll find out once the boat from china arrives.
