well, someone seems to have beat me to it... on a aoa150!
    http://terracode.com/AcerAspireMod/Acer ... ds_P1.html

seems to work fine on a customized version of arcsoft total media theater.... which i found on hp's ftp!

    small update...
the arcsoft software on HP's site REQUIRES the broadcom card to be installed BEFORE it will install... looking good. i also read versions of powerdvd work with it.
my card "should" be in this week.

I will have to try this project again now that you figured things out. Someone should tell the Ebay sellers which software works.

    Thanks, great job.

If this BCM70012 card is a USB device, (I cannot remember?) Then it would be possible to add this card on top of the memory module and hard wire it into the 8th internal usb port on the AOA110 / 150 Aspire One motherboard.

This setup would keep the WiFi and 3G slots for their original intent.

looking over the specs on the product brief... i don't think it's usb...
    it comes as:
    1: mini pci-e
    2: pci-e
    3: expresscard 34

granted, an expresscard can be usb based, the fact that the 2nd option is pci-e kinda slims down the possibility.

also, further reading of the brief shows that it connects to a single lane pci-e lane

    brief can he read here
    http://www.edom.com.tw/vender/product/B ... 0Brief.pdf

hope i'm wrong.... having this internally on usb sounds AWESOME

Broadcomm BCM 970012 is a PCI device, found my notes (viewtopic.php?f=73&t=13208&p=85347&hilit=hd+decoder+card#p85347)

PCI can be hard wired internally on the AOA110/150 (off the daughter board connector). I would have to live with the right side card reader disabled, which is a fair trade off.

Ashram, to mount internally on your D250 we would have to find the motherboard locations for hard wiring a PCI bus device. Certainly the 3G slot would work on the D250 since it has the PCI bus, AOA110/150 owner are not that lucky on the 3G slot.

or.... move the 3g modem internally (may use less wiring) and leave the accelerator in the 3g spot...

why would you even try to run a HD Decoder on USB 2.0 with a Maximum speed of 480 Mbit/s
And thats Maximum speed of 480 Mbit/s if that is the only thing on the usb buss.

Broadcomm BCM 970012 is a PCI device and the 3G slot on the D250 can use the PCI bus.

   WOW

i just played a 1080p trailer on my d250 (watchmen quicktime trailer from apple, saved as mp4) and.... IT PLAYED FLAWLESSLY!
cpu utilization jumped from 12-30% and i was streaming this 174MB wirelessly from my nas (d-link dns-323)

also played a 720p MKV (tru blood hbo rip) and is was silky smooth.
i tried blu-ray and hd dvd (yes, i'm a massochist!!!) but the version of total media theater doesn't support it. Arcsoft plans to support it in TMT3 soon (not sure how soon)

next test (maybe tomorrow) 1080p out to my 46" samsung! (or 24" samsung... not sure yet)

so far if your a video whore (like me) then the broadcom chip is AWESOME!
just update the bios to 1.07 and your good to go!

Awesome that it is working great. I cannot wait until my HD decoder arrives.

In addition to trying it in the AOA150, I have a MP1 adapter for using it in a desktop PCIe slot.

    Should be fun.

well, here's the driver i used:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ct=3943766

it's for xp, vista, and works in 7

here's the arcsoft app i used
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ct=3943766

runs fine in 7... a little slow to start sometimes, but once it's playing, it plays.
i can not get it to play DVD, HD DVD or Blu ray at all though.

    update:
version 4.7 of dell's media direct has broadcom accelerated playback for the dell studio hybrids. the problem is that it does not want to install on a non dell.

    update 2:
got dell's media direct 4.7 to install... BUT it's just a patch for 4.0, so i'm off to find that one.

    update 3:
exact file i'm looking for is
    mediadirect 4.0 software with blu-ray profile 1.1
installing this WITH 4.7 afterwards should allow blu-ray playback using the broadcom card....just trying to find it is near impossible (6 hours wasted!)

    update4:
took a shot and contacted dell from work... figured i have 2 dell pc's under contract and now i should have a copy tomorrow.

    ARG!!! :x
i got media direct to install (change the word dell to Intel in the custon.ini files) but it will not run.

on the plus side.... the broadcom drivers are included with this as well as the Blu-ray pack, so i have the right disk...

    update:
good thing i had some training in shimming apps...too bad i don't remember it all.
seems as if mediadirect is attempting to write to areas it doesn't have access to... i tried it on a vista pc and it worked, but it was a dell, so it doesn't count.
no go on server 2008 x64. overall... it may just be a windows 7 thing...i'm downloading win7 rtm now, so i'll find out later.

    epic FAIL!

media direct sees the drive, recognized it... and INCOMPATIBLE VIDEO DRIVER!

the dell studio hybrid (what this version of media direct is designed for) uses the broadcom (OLDER DRIVER) but uses the intel 965 video chipset...

seems that issue is caused by NOT have WHQL drivers... which there are none for the intel chipset on windows 7 :(

    Got my BCM970012 card today.

What a let down. Arcsoft Totalmedia plays movies at 32% CPU whether the Broadcom card is installed or not. Same results as I had before, ZERO hardware acceleration. Card shows in device manager but does not seem to be used by any programs.

I can try on a different Acer AOA150 or even my HTPC
