    @mauibg

Just got my AAO (AOA150-1126 N270 160GB 1G) on Friday and I'm having the EXACT same issue. BIOS v 0.3301

I'm wondering if the BIOS doesn't recognize the drive properly - I've noticed that my USB drive (2.5" in an enclosure) LED is red the whole time (things are good when its green, or flickering amber when transfering data). Its a known good drive, and it appears that iATKOS and tools are fine.

Have you found any resolution to this yet? I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong BIOS version?

    Anyone...?

    UPDATE 10/7/2008:
I got sick of trying to monkey around to boot off of USB HDD or USB Flash, so I decided to pull the DVD burner out of my desktop/HTPC and attach it to an external USB IDE enclosure. Burned the .iso to disk and it worked perfectly. I did notice, however as someone in a previous post reported, that the external devices (DVD included) would not get recognized properly from a cold boot, so thats definitely part of the issue. Just make sure your external drive is connected to the USB port, cold boot and it will hang, then hit <CTRL><ALT><DEL> for a warm reboot and the external device is recognized properly and shows up in the boot list. I, for some reason, wasn't able to get the USB flash or USB HDD to boot though, with numerous attempts on different ports, different EFIs etc. Only external DVD worked for me.

Here is a workaround based on a previous post by offyoutoddle for the Bonjour problem. This will reset Bonjour everytime you login to your user account. Not a fix but close enough for me. :D

This is an applescript that will reset Bonjour. Open Script Editor and paste this code...

do shell script "sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist" password "YOUR_PASSWORD" with administrator privileges
do shell script "sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist" password "YOUR_PASSWORD" with administrator privileges

Make sure to replace YOUR_PASSWORD with your actual user password. You can Compile and Run the code to make sure it is working.
Then in Script Editor, go to File / Save as and call it "Bonjour Reset". Change the File Format to "application" and uncheck "Startup Screen".
Place "Bonjour Reset.app" in your Applications folder.
Open System Preferences / Accounts select YOUR_USER_NAME and choose "Login Items tab". Add "Bonjour Reset.app" to the list.

At first I want to thank SbM for this great guide!
But I have some questions and notes.

What does HDA Fix v3 fix? Is it really important to install?

I've setup my system without HDA Fix v3 and it runs very good. That means I have no shutdown or restart problems (sleep is still not working) and the volume symbol (on statusbar) appears directly after boot. The SpeedStep info (on statusbar) doesn't appear on every boot. Is it possible to deactivate the cpu speed info? In the preferences of SpeedStep is a Display selection where you can choose Status bar icon and/or CPU Clock but after re-boot is CPU Clock checked. Has anyone similar problems?

I saw there are some different entries under System Preferences > Sound > Output.

    Without HDA Fix v3:
    Code:
    Name Type
    IntSpeakers Built-In Speaker
    Headphones Built-In Speaker
    With HDA Fix v3:
    Code:
    Name Type
    IntSpeakers DevShortNameSpkr
    Headphones DevShortNameHdpn
How can I hide my Windows XP partition (NTFS) under Mac?
I love the Darwin Bootloader! Now I can choose between Aspire one (Windows XP) and MacBook nano (Mac OS X). :p

    EDIT: here

(Sorry for my bad english, I'm from germany! ;))

Ok, I see. Restart works normaly but shutdown ends with panic on AppleHDAController. Have you testet the patched/fixed AppleHDA.kext (MadTux_ALC268_A.zip) from MadTux (InsanelyMac)?

Does your Toshiba hdd (MK3006GAL) works fine? My runs good and stable but it makes somethimes weird sounds like "tic tic tic ...". I read on the Thoshiba site that the hdd can make minimal sounds on working but are my sounds normal or is the hdd defect?

Nope, I haven't tried it. Please tell us if you do and it works, so I can correct my guide.

My drive makes those sounds too, I think it happens when it parks/unparks its heads or something. Nothing to worry about I would say, my iPod makes the same noises and it's been working fine for over a year now.

Is anyone having trouble getting hold of iATKOS 4?
Ive had a few dead t*rrents and the iATKOS 4 that seems to work just doesnt have the seeders to make it workable.

If anyone can poit me int he right direction Id be very grateful. (Just to add I have been all over the usual suspects 'the Birate Pay' , 'Green Daemon' etc ) ;)

After installing this AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext the Internal Speakers works with correct volume symbol on statusbar, it switch automaticly between Internal Speakers/Headphone and shutdown works fine BUT the Headphone is no more working. Under System Preferences > Sound > Output the Headphone entry is missing. I'm working on it ...

I found some interresting things on InsanelyMac by collit99, available here: http://rapidshare.com/files/152518779/ALC268_by_collit99.zip.

    1. Use Paul's Kext Helper b7 to install HDAEnabler.kext and AppleHDA.kext.
    2. For safety, Repair Disk Permissions with Disk Utility.
    3. Restart system.

Now you have installed the ALC268 drivers with support of Internal Speakers, Headphones, Internal Speakers (Audio-In) and Internal Mic.
    This functions I found:

    - shutdown and restart works fine
    - system goes to spleep, power led is blinking orange, but returns with black screen and system hangs :(
    - Internal Speakers and Headphones works
    - no automatic switch between Internal Speakers and Headphones, only manual
    - Audio-In works but without any possibility to change volume und switch the signal between Internal Speakers and Headphones, it's allways on both
    - Internal Mic only with very low signal and a strong noise
    - audio symbol on statusbar appears directly on boot

    EDIT (Oct 06, 2008):
Only HDAEnabler.kext and AppleHDA.kext doesn't work after new installation!
    I think I must run ALC268Installer 1 at first, but I'm checking this ...

    Does someone know a different between ALC268Installer 1, 2 or 5?

    EDIT (Oct 07, 2008):
I have installed my system once again with following settings:

    My changes:

AUDIO & SHUTDOWN (adapted from the InsanelyMac forum)
Download ALC268 package from here http://rapidshare.com/files/152518779/ALC268_by_collit99.zip.
    1. Run ALC268Installer 1, do NOT restart
    2. Use Paul's Kext Helper b7 to install HDAEnabler.kext
    3. Restart
    4. Use Paul's Kext Helper b7 to install AppleHDA.kext
    5. Restart
    6. Repair Disk Permissions with Disk Utility
    7. Go to System Preferences > Sound > Input and set the Input volume of Internal microphone to 0%. If you don't do that you will hear a noise from the speakers.

    EDIT (Oct 16, 2008):
This AppleHDA.kext is the same as in the alc268_january08.zip package from Taruga.

Can anyone comment on whether or not the official Apple updates are safe to run on this distro? Specifically 10.5.5 and other minor updates.

    anyone ran them yet? Thanks.

Hi, has anyone tried to get the sleep functionality working using the steps outlined in the following link? http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php? ... pire+sleep

I'm interested but don't want to try if it's already proven not to work with the iAtkos installation..

10.5.5 is definitely NOT okay. I was able to install all of the other updates that showed up in Software Update without a problem. I have not yet installed the Security Update that showed up yesterday, though.

I dont think it will work. The guy says it's only ment to work with 10.4.8. So I guess leopard is out of the question.

since my mac os is running fine now except the sleep I dont want to go ahead and try something like this. I'll wait for someone more brave to give it a shot :)
