I must say I'm getting a tad nervous after reading the problems here. I'm getting the...

    Acer Aspire one
    160GB
    XP edition

I'm hoping to just turn it on and be able to connect via WiFi from day one without loading new drivers, etc.

I'm now wondering what my odds of this being a trouble free event?

Firstly welcome to the forums... Hope you enjoy them..

Secondly there's over 14500 members in the forum and only a handfully have had problems and it's those that you have read about and not the thousands that have been trouble free.. So hopefully yours should be event free..

Finaly myself, my partner, (now my partners daughter) two friends and about a dozen colleagues have these little machines and NONE of us have had problems...

    Just thought I'd point it out :D :D :D

    regards
    Andrew

Agreed: XP worked day one. I was a little surprised that XP had to be installed from its partition on first start, which took a little time, but that was entirely automatic. At first Windows Update, which ought to be done routinely, there were new "optional" driver updates for the Atheros wireless and RealTek audio to be added to the Windows system updates, again installed automatically. From there everything worked fine. It's a very zippy little system.

I've ignored all the BIOS update noise since everything works fine as is. I've done my usual tweaking and installing XP system utilities and picked up a few new ones browsing here, but they're all unnecessary for ordinary use.

I agree wih Andrew. A lot of problems you read about are not because the AA1 is bad, but because we try to let the AA1 do things beyond the standard out-of-the-box machine.

I'm sure you will like this lil machine :)
