IM not functioning

when I attempt to use the pre-installed Messenger application to log in to MSN, I get the following error:

Your MSN Messenger account [email protected] is error
Our protocol is not supported by the server.

Any ideas?

Dan: the "gmail" is not an MSN account. To get an MSN, go to "hotmail.com" and sign up. You don't really care about the email, but you use it to access MSN IM.

 

thanks for the suggestion, but technically not true. you can set up msn with any email account. i accessed msn previously (with a windows based system) and currently can access via the web version, just the installed version on my linux system is not functioning. so, perhaps the linux version doesn't support non-hotmail accounts, but msn does...
