just a quick one as hoping to order one of these this week.

so far through work i can get a white Linux 120gig Acer for £168 and then £13 for the 1gig memory upgrade, so all in £206 - which so far i cannot find a better price :D

is it as simple as changing the bios to boot from the USB DVD drive and then stick in my XP cd and job done? anything else i need to lookout for?

    Thanks

    Dal

P.s. Fantastic forum so much info to read about these cheeky netbooks :geek:

That's a great price for the Aspire One 120GB model. You can get a 1GB SODIMM from http://www.play.com for £7.99 (delivered) at the moment.

I used an old desktop CD drive with a USB 2.0 to IDE adapter to install XP Home, no problems here.

didnt think of using one of those adaptors im sure we have one around the office.

yeah that price is with my discount through work, the misses seems to of taken over my laptop at home with all her camera, phone etc rubbish so thinking one of these would be perfect for me.

so you did a successful install from the linux to windows xp using the above method?

is this the correct memory -

    I used these:

    Chipset_Intel_v.8.3.0.1018
    VGA_Intel_v.6.14.10.4926
    Audio_Realtek_v.5.10.0.5628
    WLAN_Atheros_v7.6.0.224
    Lan_Intel_v.5.698.701.2008
    Touchpad_Synaptics_v.11.1.4
    CardRdr_Jmicron_v.1.00.16.01

The wired LAN driver seems to have been replaced since by another package:

    Lan_Realtek_v.v5.702.806.2008_XP.

I then updated the JMicron Card reader drivers using a package from the JMicron website:

    JMB38X_WinDrv_R1.00.21_WHQL

You might also want to install a web cam driver (I didn't bother, the web cam seemed to work fine using the Windows XP drivers):

    CCD_LiteOn_v.5.8.33.1
    CCD_SUYIN_V.1.0.1.3

I got my Acer drivers from here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/no ... e_110.html

cheers for that. I have find a link to all those so will use your list as a reference. Just need to decide on which color now. And also will buy that memory from play.com so thanks for that.

Hopefully with the memory upgrade XP should run ok

On a Hard Disk model, XP will fly.

If your AAO comes with 1GB of RAM then you might want to hold off on the 1GB SODIMM purchase since an extra 512MB may not make all that much difference and you have to take the AAO apart to install it.

With a bit of luck your 120GB disk will actually turn out to be 160GB...

from the spec it looks like its 512k standard, im hoping it will come with the bigger drive, but who knows how long they have had stock for - but i have my fingers crossed.

prob gonna keep linux on it for a couple of days and then wipe it clean and put XP on it, does it come with the linux install CD getting mixed reports on that one.

My A150 was purchased from Amazon just before Christmas and the sticker on the bottom shows a manufacture date of 08/08... mine has 120 GB drive.

I didn't even bother with Linpus and put XP Pro on it straight away and it really is quick. :)
