When I inserted my ubuntu livecd in my desktop, it gave me the install inside windows option, which seems like a more risk free and painless way to get ubuntu up and running. I use microsoft office and windows software for a lot of stuff on my Aspire One, so I don't want to risk blowing up my XP partition by accident. The install inside windows option seems a safe way to handle this without even having to repartition. However, without a cd-rom drive, that seems a problem. I've read the guide on here, but it seems more interested in installing ubuntu either as a dual boot or as the primary os. Can anyone give me a tip on the safest method? I'm new to linux and haven't learned command line since MSDOS 5. I really want to get the madwifi drivers, as I have heard it unlocks some functionality of the atheros wireless chipset that isn't possible in windows, particularly the passive modes and promiscuous modes.
