    Hello,
I just got my Aspire One, with Windows XP. I want to install Ubuntu on it. However, since I did not get a recovery DVD with the system, I want to retain the recovery partition intact just in case. Is it possible to install Ubuntu overwriting the XP partition, but not touch the recovery partition? What is the general consensus of Ubuntu running in Acer Aspire One performance wise?

    Thanks.
    R

Thanks Stickeee. What version of Ubuntu are you running? How is the performance?

Running Intrepid Ibex (8.10). Downloaded from ubuntu.com. Performance is decent. There was a post in this forum explaining how to speed things up a bit - it definitely helped. search "benchmark" or "speed".

Thanks for this. I will try the install today. I just made the bootable USB stick from the Ubuntu 8.10 ISO image. It booted up gave me a desktop screen, looked nice and slick. Did your wi-fi work out of the box after Ubuntu?
