I can't record any sound with sound recorder or egika from the integrated microphone and from the audio input jack.

I was wondering if your wifi power indicator was functional? I just can't know when my card is powered and I need to boot 2 or 3 times to get the wifi card detected by Ubuntu. Am I the only one with this problem?

Not sure about recording myself - I don't do it. Some cursory testing reveals that it is non functional at the moment.

My wi-fi card is detected at every boot. Anything printed to dmesg when its not? I do not think the light functions in Ubuntu.

If anyone else is having the issue with sound not working after resume, could you please confirm the launchpad bug. Just all something to the effect of "does not work for me ethir". Link is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/249961

    Thanks!

I don't know what i did wrong. Although I managed to get both wired and wireless working, I couldn't obtain IP from my DHCP server. I had to set static IP. I'm thinking to put the Linpus back, but I'm stuck now because my LiveUSB keeps giving me the "L 80 80 80...." error on boot up. I'm stuck. Can anyone help?

Here is what I obtain from dsmeg concerning the drivers :
    "
[ 33.135623] ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel.
    [ 33.145268] ath_hal: 0.10.2.2-ATHEROS (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, AR5416, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413, RF2133, RF2425)
    [ 33.271103] wlan: trunk
    [ 33.326750] ath_pci: trunk
    "

Do you know what it means? Before the installation I'm sure that I have disabled the drivers in System>Administration>Hardware driver. And when the drivers are loaded correctly, Proprietary Hardware drivers are unchecked but "In use".
    Thanks for your help btw.

I have the same problem with wifi... The only explanation I can find for this is that there are different motherboard revisions shipped to different parts of the planet. I've installed and tried to configure Ubuntu over 4 times already (Xubuntu, Ubuntu, net install and Ubuntu again).
I've been forced to get back to linpus... God, I really hate it!
Guess that I will just have to wait until Ubuntu or some other major distro supports all the features out of the box

    cheers

    Re:Wifi>
You don't need to restart your ubuntu. you just have to slide the Wifi switch once to make it work. just wait for a little while and it will turn on (LED is not working), provided you added the ath_pci on your /etc/modules. Once it has been turned on once, it will always be on even after restarts unless you switch it off using the same method.

for people having problems with the MadWifi driver even if you followed the instructions properly, you need to turn on your wifi switch even if the LED's not working. :) i had the same mistake too thinking that after installing the driver, the wifi will work. you still need to switch the wifi on. slide it only once so as not to confuse yourself if you turned it on or not.

Hey guys... I'm new to Linux, but eager to learn. I appreciate all the work that has been done here, and I'm really excited about the prospect of installing ubuntu and modifying my OS... However, I'm concerned about the MIC issue... One of the things I love about my One is that I can use it for making phone calls using skype... Do you guys think it will be long before someone fixes this issue? I realize it's a tough question to ask-- but I'm just curious if any of you are working on the MIC issue specifically, and if you are- do you think there's hope for it being fixed in the short-run/long-run?

    Thanks!

    Zack

Glad to report that I followed the steps to enable wifi, and it works just fine (except, as noted, that the led doesn't work, but it's ok since you get a signal strength meter in the panel, so you know if wifi is working or not).

Only problem I had was with "sudo echo ath_pci >> /etc/modules", the system wouldn't let me do that (I'm running Xubuntu). So I did "sudo mousepad /etc/modules" instead and added "ath_pci" as the last line, saved the file (CTRL+s) and it worked just fine.

So, I was continuing to look at the sound issues (specifically no sound after resume), and may have a fix. I have no idea if this affects the recording issues.

I don't want to update the guide yet, as I have seen a kernel panic since implementing this. I think I have the panic fixed, but if a couple of people could try this is would be great. If I get some reports of no issues then I will update it.

    FIX SOUND

Edit the alsa configuration to load the toshiba version of the ALC268 codec.

    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
    At the bottom add:
    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba
No we fix a kernel panic issue (perhaps)... Add ath_pci to the blacklist.

    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/defaults/acpi-support

    Change the line that reads:

    Code:
    # Add modules to this list to have them removed before suspend and reloaded
    # on resume. An example would be MODULES="em8300 yenta_socket"
    #
    # Note that network cards and USB controllers will automatically be unloaded
    # unless they're listed in MODULES_WHITELIST
    MODULES=""

    to:
    Code:
    # Add modules to this list to have them removed before suspend and reloaded
    # on resume. An example would be MODULES="em8300 yenta_socket"
    #
    # Note that network cards and USB controllers will automatically be unloaded
    # unless they're listed in MODULES_WHITELIST
    MODULES="ath_pci"

    Lets see how this goes...

I've done the toshiba/blacklist mods and rebooted, but still no mic (neither internal nor external).

Success on the audio output though which works fine after suspend/resume.

The tools I have been using to test the mic are Skype's test call and the Sound Recorder app from the Applications...Sound&Video menu. I have tried Front Mic Boost and Mic Boost as input source.

For those who care, I can confirm though that the video camera works if I use the test function from Skype's video options panel. (it has all along, not just since this fix).

Yes, you should be able to boot any OS that will run from a USB stick - this includes Ubuntu. (It is even possible to do this with XP although it is painful to set up.)

Just make sure you get an iso that uses linux kernel 2.6.26 or later (eg K/X/Ubuntu 8.04.1).

Do you mean make an exact copy of the SSD before you do this to an SDHC card?

If so DD should work. I.e.

    Code:
    dd bs=20 if=/dev/sda of=/media/memorycardmountpoint/rescue.iso
Where "memorycardmountpoint" = where the memory card is mounted. You can use the following to determine that mountpoint:

    Code:
    cat /etc/mtab
Then if you need to rescue yourself just boot to a USB key with any Linux on it and

    Code:
    dd bs=20 if=/media/memorycardmountpoint/rescue.iso of=/dev/sda
Hope that gets you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks for the write-up - very helpful. I followed it, mostly (except for creating my USB flash drive - I followed the manual directions from the ubuntu wiki instead).

    One issue I came across:

When I did this, I started getting errors during boot and during apt and synaptic actions about no "/var/log/apt" directory existing. I'm no expert, but perhaps the problem is that the /var/log directory gets mounted on tmpfs first, and once that's done, there no longer is an accessible /var/log/apt directory, so the attempt to mount /var/log/apt fails. Perhaps moving /var/log/apt mount line to precede the /var/log mount line in /etc/fstab would fix the problem. I simply moved the entire /var directory to my SDHC card and decided I wouldn't worry about my logs causing disk wear.
