I have read many posts about re-installing Windows 7 on a new hard drive with the Recovery media supplied by Acer for my model, or made using e-Recovery. I made set of recovery discs (3) immediately after starting my Aspire One AOD257 Netbook for the first time. I also spent $19.95 for an Official Acer Set of Recovery media.

What I do not understand is why I cannot makethis work. First you must know I replaced the Acer hard drive (250GB) with an OCZ SSD (120GB). I have an external USB DVD which I can boot from, this option is in my BIOS. I inserted disk one, and followed the boucing ball. After the 3rd disk, I removed it as instructed, reboot the Acer netbook going into the BIOS first and setting the boot order back to recognized OCZ SSD 1st, but I get an error, no operating system.

I'd prefer a default factory reinstallation, with drivers and apps, but if all else fails, I have a Universal Windows 7 32-bit Installation disk, and the activation keycode on the netbook. Before I give up on the factory re-installation to a new SSD, maybe I am doing something wrong. Do I need to create multiple partitions first? The Acer HDD had 3 partitions: 13GB Recovery partition, 100MB System Partition and the 220GB Acer C: Windows partition. All are healthy.

I also have an Acer desktop with 4 SATA ports. I was wondering if I could do something using the desktop to facilitate getting my Windows 7 installation over to the SSD. I am thinking about booting from a CD with something other than Windows, and cloning disk 0 to disk 1, or disk 1 to disk 2. Would this create the 3 partitions on the SSD? Isn't this what a cloning is, an exact copy of the source to the target? I have read that the newer cloning software can deal with the different size issue. Can anyone better explain this to me. I'd also like to know why the media I purchase from Acer won't install on a new disk drive? Would Paragon or Clonezilla work? Is there something better, easier?

Thank you. I saw this before How To on SSD Freaks, and was especially interested in the last comment before the post was closed (Roman Berry Nov 11 2011 2:18 am.). There are those who insist that everything you need is within the Windows 7 operation system, 3rd party software not required, including the fact that Win 7 is SSD aware. The only small hang up I have is the restoration. The Windows 7 Repair Disk created after the Image Creation, will not recognize the USB hard drive onto which the image was written. Native Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire One netbook sees it fine. It also sees my USB DVD drive which I re-ordered in the BIOS to boot from for the restoration process. Someone suggested using a USB stick instead of a USB hard drive. Since both are supported in the BIOS I chose the hard drive. My USB stick is only 8GB, and won't hold an image (9.81GB). I even tried saving an image across 3 DVDs, but MS kept wasting the blanks. I was warned of this, so I gave up on this after wasting 14 or 15 DVDs. EaseUP looks fairly straight forward, and both Defraggler and CCleaner are regular utilities to me, I guess I'll try it. I've been at it almost 2 weeks, another day or two won't hurt. I've emailed O&O Software also. This may just be the ticket. I'll let you know.

Sometimes you have to press f12 and boot the dvd/cd drive from there, The motherboard sometimes does not pick it up being a usb drive. Use the Motherboard settings by the way to invoke the f12 function
